I just caught the episode 'Him' again from the seventh season. Really enjoyed it. Some of the episodes in that first stretch of season seven have a really nostalgic vibe harking back to the Sunnydale High days. Even though I think Dawn is a bit overbaked in what is essentially a comic episode, everyone else is on form and there's some absolute howlers. But all in all, a good episode. Even though the threat of something ominous was on the simmer from the premiere of season seven, this was a nice and comfortable episode, really familiar and had the old school spirit of Buffy running right through it.

Personal highlights include anything with Anya and Buffy's attempt to blow up the principal with a rocket launcher.

Celebrity Mastermind in on BBC at the moment. The second contestant's specialist subject is Buffy seasons 1 & 2, she's on next...

Edit: she got 8 answers right. Can't say the questions were particularly difficult, I dare say many of us would've beaten that score.

Just treated myself to the Buffy 1-7 boxset from HMV as they had it on sale, I'd been meaning to get it for a while since my older DVD sets are only just hanging together lol, nevertheless let the rewatch commence!

I don't hate him, but beyond season 6 I don't quite know what to make of his presence. He seems to be there for little reason.

I'm not a fan of his appearances in Angel, though, as I feel his character doesn't fit at all with the demands placed on it. A more prominent Buffy character would have been more preferable, but perhaps their actors weren't willing.

Here are the questions from Mastermind - actually a bit tougher than might have been expected!

    1) What was the address Buffy gave when she phoned for an ambulance in 'The Body'.

    2) Who was Xander's best man in 'Hells Bells'?

    3) Which episode was Dawn introduced in?

    4) Who did Anya think was she engaged to in 'Tabula Rasa'?

    5) How did Flutie die in 'The Pack'?

    6) How did Buffy kill the Judge?

    7) How did Buffy prove that Kathy was a demon in 'Living Conditions'?

    8) What did Anya think apart from bunnies might be causing the singing in 'Once More With Feeling'?

    9) What was Ted's job?

    10) What was the name of the oracle that Giles and Anya consulted in 'Showtime'?

    11) In which episode did Giles and Joyce kiss, Buffy drive a car and the doctor body surfed.?

    12) How many hearts did the Gentleman have to get in 'Hush'?

    13) What happened to Amber the cheerleader in 'The Witch'?

    14) Who played Joyce?

    15) What kind of statue did Brad steal for Harmony in 'Real Me'?

    16) What was the name of the character who was Buffy's boyfriend between Angel and Riley?

    17) What three word message did Ethan Rayne leave behind in 'Halloween'?

Those aren't the questions that were asked in the recent programme (January 2014) . It was a celebrity version of the programme, comedian Ava Vidal's specialist subject was Buffy seasons 1 and 2.

Your list of questions relate to a Mastermind episode from 2006 (those questions were tougher than the Celebrity episode)

I have an interesting question about the slayer powers.
Let's say that during season 7, when the first eliminated a lot of potential slayers, that Buffy and co were unsuccessful in beating it, The First won and erdicated all potential slayers and slayers. Would the power then pass to a male? Or would someone powerful intervene and use magic to pass the power onto males? Because whilst I'm well aware that more potential female slayers could be born, they clearly wouldn't be in a postition to take on the first just after being born. Someone would need to take over. I know Joss intended for the power to stay female, but lets say that we are in the buffyverse and this happens.

I reckon I got between 6 and 10. Haven't looked up the answers yet :D

Probably not too good for a Buffy fan but it's a lot better than I usually do with Mastermind questions!

    1614 Rovello Drive

    2) Who was Xander's best man in 'Hells Bells'?
    Willow

    3) Which episode was Dawn introduced in?
    Buffy vs Dracula

    4) Who did Anya think was she engaged to in 'Tabula Rasa'?
    Giles

    5) How did Flutie die in 'The Pack'?
Eaten by a pack of hyena-opossessed students

    6) How did Buffy kill the Judge?
    With a rocket launcher

    7) How did Buffy prove that Kathy was a demon in 'Living Conditions'?
By collecting her toe-nail clippings which kept growing. And then ripping her 'false-face' off.

    8) What did Anya think apart from bunnies might be causing the singing in 'Once More With Feeling'?
    Midgets

    9) What was Ted's job?
    telesales

    10) What was the name of the oracle that Giles and Anya consulted in 'Showtime'?
    Pass

    11) In which episode did Giles an]d Joyce kiss, Buffy drive a car and the doctor body surfed.?
    Band Candy

    12) How many hearts did the Gentleman have to get in 'Hush'?
    Um, seven?

    13) What happened to Amber the cheerleader in 'The Witch'?
    Pass

    14) Who played Joyce?
    Kristine Sutherland

    15) What kind of statue did Brad steal for Harmony in 'Real Me'?
    Pass

    16) What was the name of the character who was Buffy's boyfriend between Angel and Riley?
    Parker

    17) What three word message did Ethan Rayne leave behind in 'Halloween'?
    I'll be back

    How'd I do?

Initially I started giving an answer to the question about Amber, but then realised I was talking about Amy so under Mastermind rules I'd have gotten it wrong. Likewise for question 15 - thinking about it now I'd say a Unicorn, but under Mastermind conditions I'd have to say 'Pass'.

My guess is that the power would remain with the females; and it would be up to people like Angel, other non-evil supernaturals and even human volunteers to fight the good fight until such time as a new generation of potentials was born and one of them reached Slayer age.

Is the Dracula episode thought of highly amongst fans? I love the whole legend of Dracula so I was surprised to find the first Season 5 episode really dull. Just didn't grab me really.

I think it's quite a funny episode; interesting that the Dracula appearance was tackled with humour and not terror. I suppose that most of the audience watching the show - at least on first broadcast - would know that name Dracula but not his cinematic history so wouldn't be expecting the menacing terror of Christopher Lee's tall Count Dracula or the less tall Bela Lugosi.

In this episode Drac was played as a mid-European charmer with only faintly sinister overtones; and wasn't mistaken for the Devil so much as a character from Sesame Street! ( By Xander, of course!)

Spike moans that Dracula owes him eleven quid. Would he really be happy if the Count handed that over to him? What about inflation over the decades? Hundred quid at least, Spike! Don't take anything less!

Season 5 of Angel is my favourite. Then Seasons 1 and 2. Seasons 3 and 4 I can live without.

That might explain the mention it got in tonights episode of Fair City (Irish Soap opera).

Some characters just randomly had a conversation about the show (saying how great it was) :D

I'm an avid fan of Buffy and have been since the BBC2/SKY 1 days. Love it. Best TV show around, thats completely rewatchable. Currently watching Season 7 (episode 19). Building up to the 20th anniversary by watching the FINALE.

BTW has anyone watched the Pivot HD versions of Buffy, Season 1 - 3? TBH although the transfer is not great (in terms of cropping/lighting etc), it looks amazing. Take away the dress sense and you'd think it wa a new hit show. Bringing in a new audience. Obviously Joss Whedon wasn't happy with it - but I don't think its too bad.....hoping for a WIDECREEN HD BLURAY boxset soon.

20 years can't believe it. One of my favourite shows although my wife may have something to say about that as she stills brings up the fact that while on holiday in Vegas I went back to our hotel room to watch the Finale on tv

Happy birthday to my fav show. The show's birthday is trending on twitter and there are some great articles on the show. You really begin to understand the love and affection for a show when it hits a milestone.

I very much doubt many of today's supernatural dramas that were inspired and influenced will be getting the praise and love when they hit the 20-year mark.

Starting my day by watching 'Dopplegangland' in honour of the 20th anniversary. God, I love this show so much.

Just to be shallow, Alyson Hannigan's hair is amazing in HD.
