Why? There any many songs that got better in their remix version.
The only remixes being Pointless IMHO are club/dubstep/drum n bass remixes of acts like One Direction as I cannot imagine any serious DJ using them in a set
Superstar by The Company. Without the Reel People mix, it wouldn't have got picked up by DJ's the way that it has, Ditto Listen by Soulutions. The original version is ok but the Drizabone remix has made it the tune of the summer imo
Tags. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Jacques Fred Petrus. Cherrelle. Alexander O'Neal. SOS Band. Change. Janet Jackson. BB&Q Band. Mary Davis. Deborah Cooper. Luther Vandross. Flyte Time Records.
The first one that came to my mind was the Hex Hector mix of Mel Cs 'I Turn To You', but that's already been mentioned. The full length version if absolutely fantastic and clocks in at over 10 minutes, but oddly enough has never been commercially released in the UK!
A couple of Michael Jacksons mixes are IMO better than the orginals too...
'Rock With You'. The Frankie Knuckles mix is brilliant! It been released on a few formats over the years and I never tire of it.
'You Are Not Alone' Classic Club Mix. Also by Frankie Knuckles. The guy is a genius! The original track has never really made much of an impact of me despite being one of his bigger hits.
'Earth Song' Hani's Club Experience. Why don't they make epic remixes like this anymore?!?! Both this and the above mix of YANA are alone worth buying his remix album 'Blood on the Dance Floor'
Also the Morales mix of 'Say Something' by Mariah Carey. One of her best!
The single release of Catatonia's Karaoke Queen wasn't tinkered with too much, but just had an added layer of 'oomph' to it that made it much catchier and more dynamic than on the album.
Similarly, to have heard the remix of Kylie's infamous Your Disco Needs You, I'm not sure by who but probably Almighty? - whoever gave it that 'gay bar' Hi-NRG sound - and then hear the album original, it's rather 'sparse' and almost lacklustre by comparison. Disco Down is much superior in terms of the album's two 'disco' titles.
In reverse, I was always baffled by why Voyage Voyage by Desireless became such a big UK hit in the remixed version. The original, which didn't make the top 40, has a fantastic, driving electropop synth bassline, which was basically just 'stripped out' for the remix, slowing the song down and making it quite nondescript IMHO.

Sadly he was a genius
I think everything he touched turned to gold. Even the last song he remixed - Better Than This by Paul Johnson made a decent dance track into a floor filling classic
1) 'The Reflex' by Duran Duran. Original mix appeared on the album Seven and the Ragged Tiger.
Nile Rodgers remixed it for the single release, and considering 'The Reflex' was the final single from the album, I doubt it would have been as huge a hit as it ended up had Nile not remixed it.
The Puff Daddy mix . It samples the sublime 'Risin' to the Top' by Keni Burke, which is probably one of the main reasons I'd say it's superior. However, Mary did a different take for the vocals on this and they're also better in my opinion too.
CJ's remix..
Well, there were a few different mixes to choose from. I loved this song when it came out and first got to know this mix when Dad put it on one of my summer holiday tapes. I don't recall it being the mix they played on the radio though. An edited version of this then appeared on Janet's 'Design of a Decade' compilation.
USA mix/original mix (?) I'm not sure if it is in fact the original mix, but it was the mix released in the States.
The Yvonne Turner mix.. This was the mix we had, which I think is superior to the US mix. This track needs to be upbeat!
The U.S. version is the version on her greatest hits which I remember being p'ed off about as I remember loving the version that was played on UK radio so was very disappointed when that wasn't the version on the Hits CD.
1993 version re-released less than 2 years after his death mixed by No More Brothers which got to Number 1 (his first SOLO No.1) http://youtu.be/BjwZ_9n4DVE
The 93' version to me is so much better. I love the videos for both versions (85' version much clearer) which looked like it was filmed at some crazy debauched party
^ I have this confusion with several other hip-hop/R'n'B so-called remixes but I don't understand how the second one even qualifies as a remix of Ignition. The lyrics and melody are completely different!
Comments
I love the Robert Palmer version, even though it sounds really sleazy, the bass is sublime.

I hadn't heard the original Prayer In C by Lillywood and the Prick until the Robin Schulz remix but damn that remix is so good!
This Brutal House/Let's Get Brutal.
There are at least four (re-)mixes of this track.
Earlier track and remixes.

On a related theme, I much prefer his version of 'Body Movin'' by The Beasties Boys to their effort.
He produced 'Mama Do The Hump' by Rizzle Kicks.
Taylors vocals synced with the 'Mama Do The Hump' instrumental...

The Saturdays - Forever Is Over (remix)
A couple of Michael Jacksons mixes are IMO better than the orginals too...

Tony Morans remix of 'History' is far superior than the original, slower version.
'Chamone'.
Sadly he was a genius
I think everything he touched turned to gold. Even the last song he remixed - Better Than This by Paul Johnson made a decent dance track into a floor filling classic

DJ Muggs' bass mix of Janet Jackson's "Because of Love"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pywFzQnVo0I
Original mix appeared on the album Seven and the Ragged Tiger.
Nile Rodgers remixed it for the single release, and considering 'The Reflex' was the final single from the album, I doubt it would have been as huge a hit as it ended up had Nile not remixed it.
2) 'Love No Limit' by Mary J. Blige
Original mix.
The Puff Daddy mix . It samples the sublime 'Risin' to the Top' by Keni Burke, which is probably one of the main reasons I'd say it's superior. However, Mary did a different take for the vocals on this and they're also better in my opinion too.
3) 'Criticize' by Alexander O' Neal.
Original mix
Single remix. It's only a slight remix but it has the edge. They made a great choice having the chorus as the intro too.
4) 'The Magic Number' by De La Soul.
Original mix
The 1-2-3 Mix.
Remix by Chad Jackson, which I remember being played at the time. I have a CD single of this.
5) 'The Best Things In Life Are Free' by Luther Vandross & Janet Jackson wiith Bell Biv DeVoe & Ralph Tresvant
Original album version.
CJ's remix..

The other mix I like - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obJygNaMY3s
This is the one I remember hearing on the radio.
6) Whitney Houston - I'm Your Baby Tonight
USA mix/original mix (?) I'm not sure if it is in fact the original mix, but it was the mix released in the States.
The Yvonne Turner mix.. This was the mix we had, which I think is superior to the US mix. This track needs to be upbeat!
7) Gorillaz - 19-2000
Original album mix.
The Soulchild Remix.
I really didn't like the album mix and preferred the single remix.
The 1982 remix of Donna Summer's I Feel Love has a distinctive character in its own right.
The U.S. version is the version on her greatest hits which I remember being p'ed off about as I remember loving the version that was played on UK radio so was very disappointed when that wasn't the version on the Hits CD.

Pete Hammond's remix of Mini Viva's 'Left My Heart In Tokyo': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP2GAtx9SeM
And the king of them all, the Ferry Corsten remix of William Orbit's remix of Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nPAkX1oot0
Original version released in 1985 which got to Number 50 in the charts http://youtu.be/KbqMD29qi58
1993 version re-released less than 2 years after his death mixed by No More Brothers which got to Number 1 (his first SOLO No.1) http://youtu.be/BjwZ_9n4DVE

R Kelly's Ignition:
This is the original version.
This is the better remixed version.
