This needed a thread because there are posters who come along and ask questions or express opinions who are shot down, belittled and often insulted by other forum members who claim to be the God on the topic and that their own view is so important, for anyone else to say anything contrary to their opinion is nothing short of idiocy and the ones doing so are imbeciles.
I have been a forum member since 2004 and this DW sub-forum is the most hostile place in the whole of DS. The politics thread is similar but you expect it to be. But DW is a TV show that everyone who comes in here enjoys. Yet the rudeness that is often encountered makes you believe that being a silent DW fan is the best way forward. After all you don't want to actually have an opinion about it because others will come down on you like a ton of bricks!
Can't we all be a bit friendlier to each other?

Unfounded claims asides, isn't it not a posters right to criticise the showrunner if they feel it's warranted?
This. Personally, I do feel that there are way too many posts here that directly attack Moffat or members of the DW team without any evidence. Needless hate. People constantly claiming things like the ratings are going down, etc, and the infamous (fortunately one-off) claim that anyone who likes the Moffat era wants to have sexual relations with the man, things like that. It is extremely annoying - ergo people are bound to get annoyed.
In the history of woops, this doesn't qualify as a big one.
No one need to get annoyed if they just ignored what they considered banal and just concentrate on things they do want to discuss.
and its peoples right to challenge them on that. Especially when it is suspiciously constant in its stream of vitriol. I don't always love what Moffat does. So lets discuss it. Why? What? When? Not 'he ruined the show/wont watch anything he writes again/useless/Moffat is a liar/fans will want his head on a spike'. All unconstructive hyperbole which leaves no where to go.
Like any social situation first impressions on a forum are quite important and while everyone should be friendly and welcoming there is also a degree of responsibility on the person entering that 'community' to show others the respect they want themselves.
My view is that I genuinely did enjoy the RTD era more than the current era because I personally feel detached from what Moffat is trying to achieve, yet somehow still feel interested enough to continue watching, for now.
Is the way I worded that statement (which is true) hyperbole or worth discussing?
I think it leaves the door open for some good chatter about why you think that and the ways in which I agree or disagree in a good way.
Certainly better than '****** Moffat- hes ruined everything. It isn't the 50th anniversary. Angry face. Its the 8th. Angry face.angry face. Most fans agree with me angry face'.
of course people are free to communicate how they wish. That's great. And they will be responded to in kind.
Its like if I was having a drink with a friend in the pub and we were having a good debate about DW. Someone over hears and comes over and says 'Oh i like DW! But I think this...mind if I pull up a chair?' Brilliant! Love that.
What I wouldn't like is the same chat being interrupted by someone jumping up and down on our table with their fingers in their ears shouting 'Moffat/Tennant/RTD is rubbish! The shows doomed! Blah blah blah! at the top of their voice, not listening to anyone else, not open to others views or voices and tipping pork scratching's on our heads.

Bla? Bla?? Surely not!!!
I liken the forums to a Dalek covered in spikes. Electric spikes.
Personally, I have had a pleasant reception as a new member of the forum, even being from America. Sometimes someone has disagreed with my comment, but that is their right, just as it is my right to disagree with someone else's comment. The adult thing to do is either ignore the comment or be prepared to get into an endless battle with some people. Generally, I just go with the ignore route.
The Judoon never invented the full stop.
Being a cousin from the North, I believe we invented that rule. Oh, and I'm sorry if I offended you . . .
Sure they did. It's full stop or face the death penalty!
I tend to go with the endless battle route, but that's because I find it more fun.
I don't take anything said on here personally. though. Well, hardly ever....
One of the most interesting threads since I joined was the Old Who Better Than New Who one (can't be bothered to search for it) I called the long-departed poster as a troll (eventually; he got a bit obvious) because he clearly was....but there was some interesting and engaging debate along the way.
Mind you, anyone rips into Peter Davison, I'm going to get very annoyed and ask you to step outside.
No. That would be silly.
I wouldn't rip into Peter Davison. Unless he ripped into me first!
I'll be meeting Peter this weekend at HAL-CON. I did enjoy his "Doctor", but he is not my personal favourite. I'm looking forward to the Photo-op and autograph session. I'm still holding out hopes for the "Special" Soiree being held Saturday Night if I can get in.
By the way, I have seen some posters being belittled when they didn't deserve it on this forum, and that ain't  .....but it's been very rare and as an occasional lurker on some other forums, DS really doesn't seem like that on the whole. They've usually been 'called out' for it by the pleasant majority here anyway...
(You edited that before my reply, didn't you. )
Don't ever say "I don't think there should be a female Doctor" on these forums. You will be imprisoned for sexism. Immediately! No case to answer. You will be accused of being regressive, unreasonable and your viewpoint outdated and prejudiced. Your reasoning will be dismissed as irrelevant and your head will be placed upon a spike so that Ravens may poke your eyes out. Just a warning. Or friendly advice. Nothing more!
