What does this mean though?

At the moment I have Sky Broadband which is 20mb so will I get a faster speed next year?

Also does this mean any chance of getting Virgin down here?

Just because those exchanges are being "fibred" doesn't mean everybody on them will be able to get FTTC.

The "C" still needs to be installed in a street near you, eg although my exchange was fibred up more than 12 months ago I still can't get it even though I'm only 2.06Km straight line from the exchange.

There's 18000+ residential and 700+ non-residential but the only cabs installed are within a 1Km radius of the exchange.

Still my area is not on the list.............

Earake what happens to the people that are not 1km from the exchange ? Do they never get fibre ? I'm near the same distance as you from my exchange.

My exchange is been upgraded but I'm with talk talk will my increase? If not and cabs need to be put in streets will BT need to put in underground pipes to feed the fibre optics? Or do they have an agreement with virgin for sharing them?

No BT use their existing ducts to run the fibre through in the majority of cases. New cabinets always have to be put in, these are Fibre To The Cabinet services.

Your TalkTalk speed won't automatically increase, no. You'd have to order TalkTalk's fibre service.

So if Sky don't have Fibre by next year it looks like I may bay be moving ISP and some others to.
I am happy with the 20mb for now but only have 1mb upload and would love to have much more as I upload HD videos to youtube but it takes ages.
Just checked BT and it says BT Infinity is not unavailable.

30th September the BT checker just said I could get it. Wish Sky would get going though, best ISP I have been with.

Not surprised that my exchange (Lemington) hasn't been selected. I'm over 5km away from it anyway so...

We really need an exchange a bit closer.

Great to see BT working but only trouble I have with fibre cable network is that it only speed it can be is at the slower copper wire speed that most home have.

until the glass fibre cable network linked without metal, the real space and speed is never going to be seen.

But it will help in the long view, so great.

We normally get things last here, I thought that by now there would be something on the cards, but not surprised there is not.

Always want faster, the faster things work the faster we want it to go.

a mate of mine got a nice Athlon dual core 3Ghz machine, not the fastest machine around, but a fair bit faster than his old P4 machine and yet he still complains when it needs to think a bit before doing his video rendering.

The same with the internet, it don't matter how fast it is, it will never be fast enough

I am happy enough with my 4Megabits, well touch luck if I am not because there is nothing I can do about it at the moment..

Sure I may like a bit more speed, another mate of mine got 16 megabits, that would be nice, but I know full well that unless i move up where he is, which is not going to happen, I will never get that speed.

4megabits does what I want, even if fibre does come here I am not ready to change over to it, don't see the need to be honest.

My home town is on the list and I am only about 240 yards from the exchange in the same street, so I wonder if I will benefit.

If you are directly wired to the exchange you won't be able to get Infinity.

Very strange how it all works out, I don't see what the point in Bt putting fibre in Cardiff since virgin have got a big foothold, what a waste of time and they wonder why not enough people went for fibre. If they came here they may have got a lot more customers.

As I said very strange, I think money passes though pockets

No idea if I am directly wired to the exchange.

My phone line comes from a telegraph pole if that gives a clue?

No you could be connected to a pole either way. If you're in the same road as the exchange and close to it, you'll be direct wired.
