Earlier in the week it was reported that ISIS & Al Qaeda may join forces in the battle against the west but it appears now that they are going to be fighting each other.

This could be a good thing if they fight each other to the death but of course in order to prove who is the best they may well use the west as a battle ground for supremacy.

    Yep, this.

Actually I had thought they were already fighting on the same side, I guess I mistook 'against anyone even vaguely civilised' for being a single thing when clearly it wasn't.

If they hurry up and wipe each other out then it means the various warzones will be safer much sooner and the refugees will be able to go home and start rebuilding. And since the various enemies all shot each other, we would have saved loads of potential expense on fuel, ammo etc and will have funds available to help with the rebuilding.

I'm not seeing a downside here.

Al Qaeda dumped ISIS back in February so this latest is just the inevitable next step, There can only be one Caliph I guess and there will be more bloodshed and more civilians dying.

My concern is that when or if they manage to wipe each other out, then someone even nastier will take their place.

The concern should be in wiping each other out will they use the west as target practice and secondly if we are targeting ISIS with bombs are we in effect then helping al qaeda by destroying ISIS members?

One will wipe out the other and then grab all the new recruits for itself.

A bunch of muslims killing each other over religious differences?

    I can't believe that.

Which one did we arm more that we can root for?

I think we gave a lot to Al Qaeda in the 80's, so probably them.

ISIS/Al Queda mutual annihilation: absolutely brilliant news.

They're both as bad as each other anyway. al-Qaeda were responsible for the attack on the Twin Towers, so they're just as rotten as Daesh is.

Someone even nastier? Is that even possible?

Saw another possibility the other day on Facebook -

David Cameron invites Kim Jong-Un to a reception at 10 Downing Street. During their conversation Dave says to him ' Kim mate, you know I think you look cool, but I've heard that those swines in ISIS think you look a right get with that hair.'

    :o

I thought al-Qaeda were pretty much on the way out now anyway, with a lot of their flock going over to Isis.
maybe this is their last gasp attempt to prove they're still no.1

Why does every ISIS leader (and there's been a few) seem to be called "Abu"? Must be a common name in Syria.

ISIS originated from Al-Qaeda, but it's not news that they are currently fighting each other, in Syria at least.

But who knows what alliances may form and perhaps later disintegrate in the future?

It's the Middle East after all...

I don't think using the exact name will make any difference to who they are and what they do.
