STUDY FINDS THAT THE AVERAGE FOX VIEWER HAS AN IQ 20 POINTS LOWER THAN THE US AVERAGE
Ah, this made me chuckle! So what cohort would you like to see similarly tested?
Imagine what Jeremy Kyle's viewers might throw up?:D
The results of a 4 year study show that Americans who obtain their news from Fox News channel have an average IQ of 80, which represents a 20 point deficit when compared to the U.S. national average of 100. IQ, or intelligence quotient, is the international standard of assessing intelligence.
Researchers at The Intelligence Institute, a conservative non-profit group, tested 5,000 people using a series of tests that measure everything from cognitive aptitude to common sense and found that people who identified themselves as Fox News viewers and 'conservative' had, on average, significantly lower intelligent quotients. Fox Viewers represented 2,650 members of the test group.
One test involved showing subjects a series of images and measuring their vitals, namely pulse rate and blood pressure. The self-identified conservatives' vitals increased over 35% when shown complex or shocking images. The image that caused the most stress was a poorly edited picture of President Obama standing next to a "ghostly" image of a child holding a tarantula.

This seems like one of those spoof articles that a proper news channel occasionally gets duped into running...
EDIT: Now I've read it, it is obviously made up. This is a give-away, amongst other things:
Interesting, though. The numbers involved are so ridiculous that anyone who knows anything about statistics, IQs, or anything could tell it is wrong, at a glance.
However, some people are so eager to believe it that any sort of journalistic questioning goes out the window.
I just thought it was funny.
Good grief............................................
I don't doubt that you did, but did you also think it was true...?
Wouldn't twenty be a high score for us these days?
And that's the only meaning of the word "fox" in the UK that I can think of.
No, it's not, and nor is it a spoof article. It's one of the findings from a survey called "Some news leaves people knowing less..." by the Fairleigh-Dickinson University in NJ, available here.
It found that those watching Fox News are up to 20 points less likely to know a given world news question than those who watch any other news source or no news at all. I think the confusion has arisen because someone has mistaken 'points' for 'IQ'.
The conclusion stands though, watching Fox actually makes you less informed about the news
YES of course it is made up, however it could mean the average IQ of fox newsreaders is on average 80
I certainly assumed it was something to do with the UK, since the OP didn't indicate that it wasn't.
It now appears that it's only about the US....not only that, but it's about their TV.
I don't really get the point of your post. It's impressively snide, but beyond my IQ, I fear.
Have you watched FOX news? It's just a mouthpiece for the Republican party and some of the coverage of the recent election result was the funniest thing I've seen on TV in some time.
I thought the smilies might give it away............
An image of Obama alongside a ghostly child holding a tarantula Maybe it's my non-UK sense of humour.
I'm really pished off now. The blatant cheek of the DS mods to leave me off the mailing list before sending out the 'we only talk about British things, innit?' circular. Barstewards.

Of course Fox viewers don't have lower IQs. That would be your Sky viewer. As thick as pig s h I t.
Could you point to where I say anything like that? This is, so far as I know, mainly a UK forum. Hence if an FM wishes to introduce a topic which is only of interest to those in our former colonies, I feel there should be a warning in the title, so the rest of us can ignore it.
you'd imagine the average american's IQ would be a little higher
considering all those educational benefits 'the greatest country in the world' must surely have
or maybe they just start out with a lot more dumb people than the rest of the world
Pretty much everywhere is a former colony of somewhere. It might be worth your bearing that in mind.
Some of us, within and without your former colonies, are interested in interesting things about all kinds of interesting places on the planet - and off the planet for that matter.
Is there anything else I need to 'warn' you about before I post - just for the sake of clarity?
LOL. Sorry, 'warning' was possibly the wrong word. What I meant was something to indicate that the thread was probably of no interest to the majority of FMs.
LOL. If we start putting long descriptions in the thread title just to satisfy a few FMs there'd be no room for the title proper, and very few threads for that matter.
Who says it has to be long? Just "(US only)" would suffice.
FMs seem to have wide ranging interests, so why attempt to second guess what will interest them.
A futile exercise at best, censoring at worst.
