Hi Epi! Lovely looking cakes, how did they taste? I am planning to do a Christmas cupcake sale to raise money for Great Ormand Street hospital, and I have shortlisted gingerbread as one of the available flavours. What did you flavour your buttercream with? And how did you make the hearts?
Only just noticed this, I would like to enter, and it looks like there is still time to submit an entry!

Hello, Victoria!
Daft, I know, but I didn't get the chance to taste this batch. I flavoured the buttercream with maple syrup and cinnamon and the hearts are gingerbread I cut out with mini heart cookie cutters. Little gingerbread men would have been ideal, so I'm going to order this from Lakeland for the next time. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/15085/Cookie-Cutter-Cube?src=gfeed&gclid=CIS2z5vnnbsCFTHLtAod_1UA-w
Be sure to post pictures of your cakes! No doubt whatever you do will be fantastic.
I didn't have time to organise my own cake sale in time for Christmas, unfortunately, but my pal and I made these to donate to an event in central London which raised money for the Red Cross Philippine typhoon appeal:
That looks fantastic! Really loving the details. Bet your mum was over the moon!
Thank you, yes she seemed pretty pleased. I think it ended up a bit too busy though if I'm honest, less is more! The icing to cake ratio was too high really and it wasn't quite as balanced as it should be. Also the shape of the cake meant it was difficult to slice. That said, great fun to do
I love your cupcakes, every single one is amazingly executed, so cleverly thought out and original.
I made some assorted vanilla cupcakes for my friend's daughter recently.
Instead of Christmas pudding/cake (I can't stand them) I served up these vanilla/choc raspberry whipped cream cupcakes with choc wafer straw and hidden jam in the middle
All your cakes are fab folks! I don't like baking so much these days as I'm on a fat free diet & since I've become older, I prefer savoury.
However my daughter adores baking/decorating cakes but the biggest surprise came when my electrician brother, who I don't often see started baking!
He is covered by environment health standards too.
I'm still shocked he's doing this as his hand writing is dreadful on paper!
He reckons it's calming - I'd get wound up tbh if it didn't work out first time!
^ Wow, your brother's cake work is brilliant! It's great for people's creative sides to come out if their regular job doesn't call for it.
Thanks! I was proud of him myself tbh - his handwriting is crap & he works as an electrician!
He's tried many a thing but in this area he's even impressed me, his elder sister - who would have thought, really!:o
He's 6' 4" and an ex Rugby player too - don't know what happened to him?!:D

a bit of what you fancy does you good
Haha it's a Flake crumbled up, but it didn't like the light from my camera very much!!
We are doing Halloween on Friday, I'm trying to think of themed cupcakes.
It's hard with themes for Halloween because you want them to look Halloweeny but not tacky

And I made this NYE whipped cream strawberry cake last night for my friend. I devoured some last night and some for breakfast.
