    It was ok but I would have liked some more info with the comparisons.

    How much would the original be in todays money?
    How much did they spend restoring it?
    How much would it be valued at?
    How would it compare to an original with their improvements, notably the engine.

    etc.


    Also Glenister's blokey image was being streched somewhat - He's a middleclass lovey at heart.

    An enjoyable watch though i'd prefer more on the informative side and less play on the entertainment 'dramatics'. The realistic side is few people have the luxury of a large empty fully equipped Garage at their disposal plus a bottomless pit of money.

    Will look forward to seeing the Mini episode as no doubt they will go for a Cooper S. Most automatically go for the 1275 'S' but much more rare are the 997 Coopers (pre 'S') or even a 1071 'S'.

    However the rarest of all is the plain and 'ordinary' Mk1 Mini because most of them were treated by owners as 'just another Mini' so they started to disappear into scrapyards way more quickly than Coopers. The Mk1 had a smaller rear screen making the Mk1 shell unique to all later Mini's.

    I discovered an original 1964 Mk1 covered in undergrowth in a guys garden back in the late 1980's. It was due to be picked up by a Scrapyard so i did an 'on the spot deal' with him and paid him £50 which is what he would have got from the Scrapyard.

    Took me almost a year to get sorted and back to it's former glory but was a real head turner wherever i went in it. I eventually sold it for just over £1k but often regretted letting it go. Dread to think how much it would be worth now!

    I 'think' the problem with the Triumph lump was cooling related, couldn't get enough cool air or something like that caused it to blow head gaskets and warp the head, repeatedly.
    I think Ford had a similar problem with the V4 lump in the Zephyr.
    I'd go Rover just for the sake of a quiet life, lots about, lots of spares.
    Find an old Rangie, recon the lump with rings, shells, gaskets, throw it in and forget about it.

    Now, I'm a bit young for the Stag originally, was marketed as sports car or GT?
    We always saw it as a Dad's GT, handy for giving it beans in a straight line occasionally, but mostly a nice cruiser when the sun's out.

    I owned a Triumph Stag for a couple of years and used it every day. The water pump is mounted high up & vertically in the engine block, you only have to lose a little coolant and all circulation stops !.

    They are fairly reliable with a high capacity radiator & an electric fan, the Triumph V8 was overhead cam & used to rev well.

    I never had head gasket trouble during my period of ownership.

    Those 'specials' weren't all from LR's special projects - the tracked and big-wheel Landies were by a firm called Cuthbertson.

    Another enjoyable show. Like last week, though, they keep mentioning the cars going for auction but then we never see anything of that. Is there perhaps a final catch-up show at the end of the series where they all get sold off?

    We said that too about the auction and reckon you are right. There will probably be a final show at the end, there was a clip of it tonight. I really hope so anyway.

    Absolutely loving this programme. I never thought I would get so emotional over cars :)

    what a blatant rip-off of 'classic car rescue' still, I suppose its normally ch5 ripping off progs from other channels so serves them right for a change.

    Hardly a rip off.... Classic Car Rescue is absolute crap compared to this!

    Interestingly all through the programme my wife just kept cooing 'yes, yes...so long as that dishy mechanic Ant comes with it...'

    I love this programme - sure it is contrived but it is just fun escapism for boys (and some girls...) and the two main personalities work well. It's sort of got the spirit of TG when they revamped it and before that trio became rich, ego-centric and boring and is better as it is based on vehicles we can really aspire to owning even tho we probably won't (we do have a Landy 90 - would love a Series 1 but will probably never have one).

    Great fun - even if it is a rip off of other formats, who cares?

    That's a bit crazy.

    One here on fleabay for just £8,250. New galvanised chassis and all looks fairly tidy and original. If you wanted a shiny finish like the one they did, it wouldn't need much more than a fresh coat of paint.

    The show is interesting but i can't relate to the two presenters at all. Whenever a witty comment is made it just sounds so droll, unnecessary and totally not funny.

    Agreed about the presenters, unfunny Glenister comes across as an uninformed chav. He could barely drive - having only driven autos - what an enthusiast.

    The Ebay Landrover looks good value against the one they restored, but of course theirs now has an improved provenance after its hour of tv fame- such are the vagaries of car auction prices.

    The others including the DeLorean, Stag and Cooper were all auctioned together.

    It would of course be interesting to know their auction value without their tv enhanced profile, a hypothetical that can never be accurately resolved.

    I have to agree. That bit about autos just seemed bizarre. He does come across as rather plodding and his comments all seem a bit laconic, almost disinterested, whilst the mechanic guy is lacking that little touch of charisma you need for TV.

    I know Classic Car Rescue is a different show entirely but Bernie and Mario's banter and enthusiasm is far more infectious and comes across better.

    That said, I have been enjoying FTLOC but more for the cars themselves and the restoration than what the presenters bring to it.

    But presumably the auction happened before the TV series aired?

    To be fair I've assumed they were sold with relevant info re the show, as I presume the pair of them were at the auction to act up etc to the camera and finish the series.

    I may be completely wrong.

    I'd say extremely good value when i look at those potty auction figures! Bear in mind too that Series 1 example i found on ebay appears to be in virtually original condition needing very little to bring it up to the standard of the one from the show. Any potential buyer could easily pick it up for £8k. Engine rebuild and spray job......say around £4k making a total spend of £12k......£28k less than what some dummy paid for theirs!

    Here are the auctioneer's estimates; they are way off the prices achieved, how common that is I have no idea.

    The DeLorean achieved double, Escort 50% over, Stag double, Cooper 50% over, .MG 50% over and the Landrover approaching triple the estimate.
