The first woman to star in Doctor Who with a One Direction star as her companion? That's the dream of actress and singer Heather Peace.
While the second part of that wish is pure fantasy, the ambition to become the Tardis' first woman owner is a genuine aim and one she believes is realistic.
Best known for roles in Emmerdale, London's Burning, Ultimate Force and BBC Three's Lip Service, the 38-year-old, who currently plays teacher Nikki Boston in BBC One drama Waterloo Road, wants to add another iconic character to her CV.
Following the recent news that Peter Capaldi is to become the 12th Doctor, Peace genuinely hopes her time in the Tardis will come.
"I want to be the first female Doctor Who," she says. "I'm just keeping it as a positive mental attitude.
"I think they should turn the whole thing around, I'll be in my 40s soon and you need to be a bit older with a young a male sidekick who is completely in love with her but she's not interested.
"I've got it all figured out. It could be one of the One Direction boys. Time travelling is so for me."

and with that criminal record...sorry, i mean CV...behind her she will never get within a thousand miles of being cast even as an extra.
In fact, when I saw the name, my first reaction was "who the hell is she? Is she an actress, because I've never h
heard of her."
Some obscure nobody with ideas far above her station hitching a ride on the coat tails of a successful programme.
Some people suffer from self delusionment. Perhaps she is just using Doctor Who as a platform to get herself recognised. Bit pathetic really.
Probably.
I'm inclined to agree.
As for a female Doctor I remain ambivalent about the idea. I'm no traditionalist but I can't help but think having a woman in the role after all this time would be a slump in the coherency of the show. It would be like having a Polo in a bag of Skittles. It would just seem out of place.
It also begs the question do we really need a female Doctor? It's not like there is a shortage of strong female leads on TV, so that's no reason for there to be one. Heck, in Doctor Who alone there have been plenty of strong female characters, not least since the relaunch.
OTOH I can see that it might open up some interesting new horizons from a narrative point of view, but that doesn't go as far to say it should happen. There needs to be enough support for the prospect for it to have a realistic chance of working. As it happens I don't think there is enough support at present, as such it would be an unnecessary risk.
I can't comment on Heather Peace's suitability as an actress as I only have a very vague recollection of her in London's Burning/Ultimate Force. I've not seen her in anything else, AFAIK.
In leather boots.
Works for me.
All of time and space, everything that's ever happened or ever will - and they run out of story ideas? If they get that desperate, it's time to cancel not only Doctor Who, but all of television.
To be fair though, having been in waterloo road and emmerdale hardly cancels her out of being in the show, eh?
She's an actress.
It's a male character.
Therefore:
No.
QED.
Ah the voice of reason. Ok, I get people don't want a female Doctor, but do people have to make all sorts of sly digs. She has been in quite a few dramas, she is obviously a fan and for what it is worth, she might have said it tongue in cheek.
Cue half of the Who forum screaming blue murder and calling her pathetic.
Also just because you (not the poster I quoted) don't know her, doesn't mean that she isn't a respected actress. Before the Thick of it, most people wouldn't have known Peter, and he is a respected actor.
Male?
Seriously, the fangirls have boosted DW in the Twitter/Tumblr/FB era.
So..
Would a female doc send male fandom into a huge nerdgasm?
Or would 800 Whovians completely implode the intertubes in existential despair?
Do you know what I find pathetic?, the way that certain Who "fans" go straight on the attack against anyone that mentions the show in a way that they don't approve of.
Yes because all actors and actresses cast in Who are of a Shakespearean, Oscar winning standard aren't they.
It's embarrassing posts like yours that damage the reputation of the wider Who fandom out there.....
How about a really hot female turkish actress?
Fezzes are cool.
That's a bit drastic. I think I'll just stop watching Doctor Who.
