    There were people moaning about snow on the ground on the first day of 'summer' last year. I explained that putting the clocks forward an hour does not mean that it is summer.

    I'm all for it if this means it ends in June.

    Summer in terms of weather starts 1 June for the MO and they should know.

    forget equinoxes that refer to cosmic matters as weather happens in the bottom 10 miles above our heads.

    If you are talking about weather then its 1 june. end of.

    Never would have hapenned at the beeb. It's well known that only BBC sports presenters have double degrees in Astronomy and Pedantry.

    Earlier the clocks changed from GMT to GMT + 1 also known as BST (British Summer Time) so he is right. He never said it was the first day of Summer.

    Some people claim that Summer begins on 21st June, which is also known as Midsummer's Day.

    No wonder there is some confusion. Caling the first day of British Summer Time the first day of Summer is hardly a hanging offence.

    BST begins at 01:00 GMT on the last Sunday of March and ends at 01:00 GMT on the last Sunday of October;

    BST starts in the spring and ends in the autumn. It's called Summer Time for convenience, as summer is obviously not here just yet!

    But none of that changes the fact that statement 'Today is the first day of Summer Time' (or WTTE) is perfectly accurate.

    british summer time refers to the time period march-october, not to the season.

    At the risk of being pedantic, I think that Midsummer's Day is 24th June.

    Summer time and The Summer ( as in the season) are not the same thing at all

    We are now in the summer half (loosely) of the year.

    It's not hard to understand.
