Created this thread for people to share some interesting trivia they know about EastEnders, for example, Patsy Kensit, Cheryl Baker and Joanna Lumley were all in the running to play the part of Chrissie Watts. Could you imagine anyone else playing the infamous Chrissie other than Tracy-Ann Oberman?!

Also, for the first few episodes, EastEnders credits were recorded live as they played out.
Den, Angie and Sharon were originally called Jack, Pearl and Tracey.
Not all of the original cast actually appeared in the first episode. Some were introduced a couple of episodes later.
I'm quite sure thats inaccurate, I remember Ian and Nick being in the first episode
Hence the "not all" part of my statement:D
He was played by Johnny Lee Miller.
Robbie Williams once made a cameo using the payphone in the Vic.
The Albert Square railings are made of plastic, hence why Roxy was so easily able to plough a car through them.
And lots of the character names came from East End grave yards .
They also chose actors from the East End.
Thank god she was chosen for the role of Stacey. The Millers were terrible, even an someone as talented as Lacey would've been wasted on that awful character.
Kellie Bright auditioned for Tanya Branning. She would've been pretty interesting in that role. Maybe (by some coincidence) Jo Joyner might have ended up as Linda Carter.
Jean Fennel was the first Angie and had started filming one scene but they didn't think she fitted so changed her for Anita ( Julia Smiths first choice ) . Jean had been a stage actress and Eastenders was her first TV show, she did do one film in 1988 and then returned to teaching acting and died in 2011
There is a picture of Jean here

I don't think that's right. The rape scene was scrapped but Grant was still in the show for another two years.
Never heard that one before
I know it only seems like a small thing but that could have made a big difference to the success of the show if they hadn't changed it
No they are metal, like all railings the spikes were cut off for safety and eventually they put rubber spikes back on.
They would have replaced with fake railing for the crash, but they also used fake concrete bases that the railings are set in.
