Why would someone expect a brand new replacement model?

Because that's what Apple are sending.

They didn't say that they were and post above these mention the fact that some people were getting 1st gen replacements and another poster says a lot of people would not have sent theirs back if they were only going to get a 1st gen back.

So I was just asking why people would expect a new model back - and as it appears some people have not

Replacements have been arriving since late November supposedly.

If you do get a new one and only use it for non DRM's mp3's it might be a good idea to ebay it. You could then down/upgrade to a Sansa Clip+ or Zip. You will then have better sound, some spare change and an extra 32GB+ of memory. The Sansas are very close to the top end iPod classic in sound quality.

I didn't hear about the recall until this week. They sent me a padded bag and a plastic envelope to return it in about 2 days after I'd filled in the online form.

I sent it back Friday. Fingers crossed for a later gen version.

From what I've read, they ran out of refurbished 1st gen and there are many reports of people getting later gen replacements.

I was going to buy a new one anyway so this will be a bonus.

I was pretty disappointed to receive my new nano as I sent my old black one back in november. Kinda wish I kept the old nano for sentimental sake.

Ah well i shall sell the new one to fund for the next iPad if it tickles my fancy
