another dumb mobile question - do mobiles have an equivalent for the 141 and 1471 numbers that landlines have?

O2 functions in the same way as BT for 141 & 1471 :)

    Not sure about other networks

Some mobile networks support 141, although some don't.. I know 3 doesn't. On networks that don't support it, you need to turn the sending of your number on or off using your phone's menus (or by using the equivelant GSM code).

The only network I know that definitely suports 1471 is O2.

Maybe I am being a bit thick here, but why would I need 1471 on my mobile it tells me if I've had a missed call and who from already. I can see the point of 141 (although I can turn this function on anyway should I need to)

    Just interested really :)

What if your phones switched off and you want to know whos phone you or if your battery dies on you and someone was meant to be calling you that day then you can know if they did.

See, I knew it was a stupid question :o

I would like to think though, that any caller, who couldn't get me would leave a message

    Vodafone:

1471: Voice read-out and call return option
*#147#: last number recieved shown on phone screen.

T-Mobile: Have no 1471 services at all.

    Orange: No 1471 service.

Did you know that on a BT landline *27# is the same as 1471. And *28# will automatically connect your call to the last number that rang.

Although Orange don't have a 1471 service, they offer a free missed call alert text message with the number and time if the phone is switched off or out of coverage.

Yeah I found this really useful as it told you all the missed calls.

yep, and the orange one now ties into your phone's address book which is really useful - and it works when you're abroad (apparently)
