Where all the resorts are gated and walking in kkingston is not recommended because of the huge crime.
Love Barbados , beautiful beaches and restaurants. Hotels are lovely, people are friendly and the weather is divine.
Apart from the Rodney's etc very little riff raff.:)

I have been to Jamaica plenty of times, never stayed in a gated resort and walked the streets of Kingston without ever having a problem.
I love Jamaica beautiful country, lovely scenery gorgeous beaches, fantastic food. Pity some are unable to venture further than their guide book recommendations.
Mmmmmmm. ......Barbados. Yes please. Chavs wouldn't bother me at all. I'd be far to busy getting a tan & chilling in ME ME ME mode to even notice other people.
Currently the Rooneys, Jodie Marsh and Chloe Green are there. Not a great ad for Barbados!
You have the wrong impression of Barbados. I visit when I can, and believe me, you can keep well away from the rich chavs. You don't have to be anywhere near them. Rich chavs position themselves for the tabloids. They are plenty of wealthy people who live in, or visit Barbados that you will never, ever know of. And the best thing about it is that is too expensive for poor chavs to visit, unless they get lucky, or save forever.

Quoted for truth. I've been to Jamaica many times and I have stayed in top resorts in the tourists areas as well vacationing in properties deep within the mountains. I have travelled right across the country from Portland to Negril and I haven't had any problems at all. It isn't as bad as people bang on about.

Your saying it isn't as bad suggests it is somewhat bad. I have no desire to go anywhere with such recommendation although you'll be thrilled to know you aren't the one to have put the kybosh on such a soap story holiday as I had no dream of going there at all anyway — nor Barbados either.

Rubbish. Been to both and have never stayed in a gated resort in Jamaica. Obviously as with anywhere, you need to apply a certain amount of common sense. Yes, of course Barbados is 'idyllic': that's because it's over-sanitised and the 'natives' over-prepped to cater for British/European tourists, so unless you know folk who live there - which I do - you won't get a true picture of it. Whilst they both share similar climates/weather, I think you'll find Jamaica is far lusher and has more natural resources than Barbados but don't let that stop you...

Pffft. About as real as being locked in a resort can be.

I can't imagine Posh enjoying the Maldives. All that pesky sand makes the walking in the Jimmy Choo's difficult, and what does ONE DO all day?

If you don't mind being robbed by the natives on the beach...
Were you robbed in Barbados?
