Upgrading from Win XP to Windows 7

As per the title, I am now considering doing this as I want to get a more up to date operating system and don't like the look of Windows 8.
I have run the MS compatibilty utility and everything appears ok apart from my Radeon 9250 graphics card which I understand won't run on Win7. So, what would be a recommended replacement for this please?
Also, I see that I cannot run Outlook in Win 7 so what is the best option for a replacement that will be compatible with my existing archived emails?
Finally, where is the best place to get a copy of Windows 7 please?
Thanks

Of course outlook works in Windows 7, perhaps not your edition of Outlook
You probably need to buy a newer edition of Office.
This link suggests you will be able to get your card working in 7.
I am using Outlook 2007 but when I run the Compatibility checker it states that Outlook will not run in Windows 7, is that not correct?
Am I also right in thinking that the rest of Office 2007 will run ok in Windows 7?
Can you point me in the right direction for getting hold of a copy of Windows 7 at reasonable cost please?
Thank you
Especially if you do a clean install of windows 7.
Your graphics card will be fine. It's probably just a piece of XP software associated with the graphics software that is an issue. You will have a complete new set of drivers in Windows 7.
The OP clearly says 'Outlook 2007' which is unambiguous. As pointed out above, this runs fine on Windows 7
If you are referring to Outlook Express, that is gone and dusted. Windows Live Mail is its replacement but is a separate download.
A quick Google suggests the graphics card you have is an AGP one...not many of them about these days but im sure if you look hard enough there will be something suitable if it turns out not to work. I guess what you may also be able to do with your existing one is use the XP drivers (providing you opt for the 32bit version of Windows 7 rather than 64bit)
I am definitely using Outlook not outlook express - I have just run the upgrade advisor again and in actual fact it highlights that Outlook express is not available on Win 7 not Outlook ( My mistake)
Not sure why it flags express up as an issue though as I don't actually use it.
Looks like everything else will be ok (including the graphics card - thanks for the link The Big M).
So just need to source a copy of win 7, any suggestions on that please?
Outlook express is still installed on XP even if you don't use it.
I think, being as its a tool that is used by many, they just make sure they flag it.
You will have no problems at all with office 2007 or with your graphic card. All you need to do once win 7 is loaded and activated is go to Radeon's web site and download the latest drivers.
You could try Amazon for good prices on win7 Home premium and Pro versions. Home premium is fine for most users unless you need to use professional Office software. Or require more security options like bitlocker.
This page:

reports success with your card with XP drivers and Win7.
The search system is bad. You still have to be logged in as an admin the whole time, and Win 7 hides things very cleverly indeed so you won't ever find them - get used to sticking things on the desktop, you'll need it.
A lot of people say they like it, so you'ld better hope to be one of them.
Nonsense. This was by far one of the best improvements over XP.
No you don't. And even if you do, UAC offers improved security over running as admin on an XP machine (which he is probably already doing).
You're going to have to expand on that one...
I downloaded Cubic Explorer for doing searches.
You just type what you want in the box and it comes up. What more could you want?
Unless of course you prefer the help of dogs or wizards?
You must have disabled the search indexing.
I tried it with indexing on and off. It misses files on search for contents and returns a filename search when I didn't ask for filenames.
Then you can't see the paths in the returned list properly, the way its listed is just plain bad.
XP was much better, when you ask to search for contents that's all it searched. The list was clear and concise.
Just a complete garbage search system, i don't bother with it all now.
Cubic explorer just does exactly what you ask and has a 100% hit rate.
Everything else on 7 is better though.
As per all the advice you've been given, I'd add but one thing: do a clean install of W7 (or W8 and a Metro-busting Start button front-end such as Classic Shell) - and dual boot it with XP. You can make W8 look and feel pretty much like W7 (or even XP!)
Then, if anything doesn't work you can just reboot into XP, and you can take your time installing only what you want and what works in your nice clean fast W7/8.
You know it makes sense.
Or just get Windows 7 Pro which has an XP virtual machine anyway?
