Ok, well here is the first smoothie I have just made (ever)
third of a cucumber, 200g white grapes, banana, 125ml pot of strawberry greek yoghurt (the yog with bits of strawberry at the bottom), 125ml of water
far too sweet, too bananary, also made far too much
so, next time I will cut out the banana, use plain yog and half the water
I think Im going to try cucumber, apple, spinach, lime juice and water tomorrow
does everyone leave the skins on, I dont want to be doing too much prep in the mornings
Loads of nutrients/fibre/goodness in the skin so I'd leave skin on personally.
I went through a smoothie making period in summer- I absolutely loved inventing new concoctions. Some work well with vodka too if you fancy something different in the evening. Vodka is made from potatoes too, so works well
cutting out the banana saves about 100 calories and if I use plain yoghurt next time that cuts down a bit too
does anyone use frozen fruit and if so, do you defrost it first?
I always defrost first, room temp is much nicer and blends better. I don't peel apples, only stuff that obviously needs to be peeled like oranges or bananas.

well in that case Im going to leave a small amount of frozen spinach and frozen berries out in the blender overnight, then I can just whizz them up tomorrow morning, add a plain yoghurt and see how that does me
does anyone use celery in smoothies, Im wondering if its a bit stringy
well I suppose you could argue the other way, we are meant to feel hungry, we're not meant to be satiated all the time
Yes, that's true. Just saying what the doctor told someone I know. This person I know is also trying to stay slim as well. That might have been why the doctor recommended that they ate something every so often. I don't know their history, so the doctor could have recommended this for a particular reason.
Are the 17 portions all different types of fruit and vegetable? Because that's what makes the UK's 5-a-day harder.
Some days they would be (I'm vegan) and others not. I'm not too fussed, I try and make sure there are a variety of colours on my plate as a rough indication that there is a wide range of vitamins, and each week I buy different fruit and veg from the last.
I needed a big breakfast as I wasnt going to be able to stop for lunch but was supposed to be home by around 3.30ish so I planned to have a smoothie when I got in with dinner later
well I was about 2.5hours later than planned and starving by the time I got in, I prepared the smoothie and am now trying to drink it, but I must have put way too much spinach in it as its very difficult to enjoy, its got mixed berries and a pear in it and Im struggling to get the rest of it in me. I already had beans and sweetcorn with breakfast
I will have some tomatoes and broccoli with my dinner, but unless I can finish this drink thats only going to be 4. I had to put sugar in the smoothie too so it defeats the object of trying to behealthy

Having sugar doesn't defeat the object of trying to be healthy at all. Having everything in moderation is fine. Try having small portions of things and this will allow you to have a wider variety of vegetables. I suppose the only way you could have a wider variety of fruit would be to have two berries of different kinds. Unless you chop up the big fruits and then have a few small chunks of different big fruits after every meal. The reason you were starving is probably because you didn't have anywhere near the amount of carbohydrates that you should have had.

No, I was starving because I was late getting home, I was due to eat again around 3.30ish.
The berries were mixed berries and cherries so quite a variety. After the smoothie I got cravings again, only satiated when I ate a chunk of cheese. I may have to rethink this.

Healthy though it probably is, spinach with fruit sounds like a horrible combination.
My typical smoothie recipe is a handful of berries, half a scoop of protein powder, a couple of spoonsful of yoghurt, a couple of ice cubes, topped up with sem-skimmed milk and a teaspoon of honey.

I believed the sites that had spinach/fruit smoothie recipes and said that the spinach was disguised by the fruit! Unless I put too much in of course

Yes, I make apple and blackberry crumble too.

Is this some sort of slang? I've no idea what it means.
Edit: They're overweight?
Around here it's slang for a cigarette.
e2a: at first i thought it didn't make sense now i think he might be calling them ****.

Think you need to see your doc, strange man that you are. Why do you put diarrhea in your ear?
I am always impressed with people that can eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day.
Orange juice with breakfast (bran flakes)
Cheese and lettuce bread roll for lunch, cherry tomatoes and an apple for snacks
Vegetable stir-fry for dinner which includes broccoli, carrot, courgette, pepper, onion, spring onion and mushroom.
That's 11 different fruit and vegetables; it's certainly possible to have lots of fruit and veg in your diet each day.

That is because fat is filling and sugar isnt.

absolutely.
