Second-hand MacBook Pro. How to make it "mine"

Hello,

Husband has just bought a new MacBook Pro so has given me his old one.

I have already transferred all of his files over to his new laptop via big ol' external hard drive, but now how do I get rid of his user account on the old/now-my MacBook?

Basically we always had 2 user accounts. His was the main/primary/administrator one, and I was just an extra user.

Is there any way to assign myself as the new big cheese on the laptop, delete his user account AND make it so I don't have to transfer all my files and programs across?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    log in as him.
go into users in system preferences, make yourself admin (if you're not already).
log out, log in as you.
delete his account - if it'll let you (it might not if his account is deemed the master account).

Create a new account in your name and make sure it has Admin privileges.

as the OP already said they had an account then that is not required.
not sure you you chose to omit the part where i said make their account admin.
