Jeremy Corbyn wants the UK to be a republic. If he does become leader do you think it will happen if he wins.

    Not a chance in hell.

(And that answer refers both to the question of him becoming Prime Minister and the question of whether we would get rid of the monarchy).

Jeremy Corbyn wants the UK to be a republic. ...
In which case my first guess is that he will turn out to be 12th cousin 15 times removed or vaguely descended from some guy with a shiny* hat and sword who was in charge of half a dozen flocks of sheep back in 500AD, thus completely negating his claim to objectivity and everyone will label it as an act of spite for being cut out of his true inheritance.

And when the news does break, he will reveal his true plan to turn the mainland into a giant prison for the rest of the world to rent cell space in, neatly copying one of those 'what if' documentaries so that nobody will spot that actually they were looking at real plans until it's far too late and it wasn't a clip from his favourite movie collection.

    * initially mis-typed as 'whiny' :D

Thankfully he won't win, and despite some of the remarks in here, the majority of the British public don't want a Republic, which is why he doesn't stand a chance. :p

He is on record as saying that a switch to a Republic is not something he will pursue

He would say that because he knows that it would be the kiss of death for him at voting time. ;-)

He is a republican but has stated if he were to become PM it's not a fight he'd start. There's simply more important issues that need dealing with.

If he's leader and loses the election, it won't be because he favours a republic. That'll be one of the last things on people's minds!

Indeed, he has no chance whatsoever.
He can't even bring himself to condemn the murderers of innocent British citizens.

    You are wrong.
People are well aware of how old the Queen is, lots of big companies have contingency plans already in place for when she dies. And those plans are not because they are vultures/morbid, but because they know how big an event it will be. And hundreds of thousands of people work for these companies.

The last thing people will want is somebody who could possibly push for a republic at that time.
It will prey on people's minds, maybe not the first, second or third thing that they have doubts about JC, but it will be a factor.

His republicanism was one of the (minor) reasons he received three 1st preference votes from my household.

The UK can quite easily remove the head of state title from the royal family without removing the royal family. You would still be able to bow and scrape to the Queen and call her “ma’am” if that’s what makes you happy.

Unfortunately the majority of people in the UK hold the wrong opinion on this issue so it wont happen any time soon.

This is always the argument brought by republicans - that people don't understand it, or have been misinformed and told lies.

The reality is that people simply like the monarchy as it is, or just don't give a shit either way.

Why are you suggesting the queen will die if Jeremy Corbyn loses the 2020 election?

No. I also don't think he's going to win a General Election if he does manage to win the leadership.

Age, nothing to do with the election.

Not sure why you don't seem to understand the post. In 2020 she will be in her nineties. There is a general awareness that she is coming to the end of her life.

JC being a republican will be a factor, as I said not a huge one, but will be an issue.

TBH, do you think any of this bunch could win a general election? :o

Look what happened last time Labour voted for someone on the left of their party ideals. He won't win the election and I have a feeling he will be in the job a year at most before someone challenges his leadership.

I long for the day we become a republic but it won't happen any time soon and won't happen until the rest of the Commonwealth decide they want rid as well.

Why would it be, when he's already said that he won't be "pushing for a republic" if he wins in 2020? Not sure what the Queen's death has to do with this.

I'm not against the Royal Family, full stop (in regards to Corbyn being against them). I'm just against the members of it that totally take the pee by splashing out massive sums of tax payers' money on holidays and whatnot. Of course, this will all be perfectly okay with Cameron. If some of them do spend massively sometimes using tax payers' money, than talk about double standards.
