Hello,
I will be ordering the WrestleMania show Sunday night which airs Monday morning at 1am so I cannot watch this live.
However I have been told you cannot record the HD live showing, all other showings will be edited and only available in SD.
I have a Philips HD freeview recorder box. Is there any way I can view and record the live showing on this?
Thank you for any help.

What would I need then to record straight onto a HDD device, and play back the HD video recorded live?
The only way to get a HD signal out of whatever box you are receiving the programme on is HDMI or Component video. If you have HDMI then HDCP copy protection may get in the way, even if you can find any form of recorder that has HDMI inputs (I don't know of any).
So component video may be the only option. Which could mean the connectors on the box itself if it has any or an HDMI to Component converter box. You would then need something to record that Component video signal. There is this

You would also need a TV with Component video inputs to view the recording.
I think it is such a JOKE that Sky do this...
Boxes like this, the MTV7000D, are just becoming available in the Chinese market. This will record via HDMI and in H-Def: 720p and 1080i which makes it a perfect companion for HD TV receivers and HD Satellite boxes.
It's not a slam-dunk solution for us here though. Our DVB (Freeview) TV system is different, so off-air reception is a no-go for us in Britain. There's also no built-in hard drive, so you'd need to add the cost of an external USB drive to the base price of £380.
However, the biggest hurdle is Customs. According to this thread on the American AVS Forums site supply is restricted to the Chinese home market only. That means somebody over there would have to ship it as a private individual.
It's not Sky, it's a requirement from the broadcasters and copyright holders - to stop you stealing the programme, as you appear to be wanting to do?.
Bloody excuse me?!
I pay for Sky, I will be paying for a HD programme on box office that airs 1am - 5am - on a SUNDAY night. Pardon me for not being able to stay up and watch it live, and want to record the programme to watch at my leisure on the Monday at a reasonable time on the RECORDER I also bought from Sky.
Anyway, before you all get your knickers any further in to a twist I think it's time we find out the truth about the core question....
Can Sky Box Office HD PPVs be recorded? Well, it turns out that the answer is Yes!
It looks like there are two options when ordering pay-per-view: Watching Live or Recording. But you have to make the choice at the time you make the booking.
Have a look at this from the Sky Help Forum. There's even pretty pictures to show exactly what to do. Sky Help Forum link
There we are. Crisis averted. Phew!!
John Cena is such a waste of space. Wooden or what! Haven't made my mind up yet about CM Punk. But I think he's good entertainment value.
