Has anyone any suggestions as to which music should be used for the 2014 series? I would suggest:-
Cha Cha Cha
Dance Away - Roxy Music
Casino Royale - Herb Alpert
(Down) At The Club - The Drifters
Backstabbers - The O'Jays
Viennese Waltz
South American Getaway - (from "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid) - this would be great for "Movie" week
Spinnin' & Spinnin' - Syreeta
Reach Out & Touch (Somebody's Hand) - Diana Ross
Foxtrot
What The World Needs Now (Is Love) - Dionne Warwick
Close To You - The Carpenters
Tuxedo Junction - Manhattan Transfer
Charleston
When I'm Cleaning Windows - George Formby
Happy Go Lucky Me - George Formby
Jive
Land of 1000 Dances - Wilson Pickett
Do The Hucklebuck - Coast to Coast
We Go Together - (from 'Grease')
Salsa
Oye Mi Canto - Gloria Estefan
I Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet - Gonzalez
(Do The) Spanish Hustle - Fatback Band
Paso Doble
Firedance - (from 'Riverdance')
Legend of Xanadu - Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Titch
Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto - Manuel & His Music of the Mountains - (I think this could also possibly work for either an AT or Rumba)
I was also considering "Speedy Gonzalez" by Pat Boone but was unsure which category this would fit into (Cha Cha Cha/Samba possibly?)
Anyone else any suggestions? I'll have a think about a few more.

foxtrot
frank sinatra's version of blue moon
fly me to the moon - frank sinatra
cha cha
loca - shakira
let's get loud - jennifer lopez (yeah it's been used before but there will NEVER be enough cha cha's to this song.)
on the floor - jennifer lopez
paso doble
espana cani (how does it not crop up at least once every series? there should be more paso's to this)
scott and fran's paso doble from strictly ballroom (same with this, i'm sure they've used it before but it's such a great song!)
I'd also love to see someone do a jive to you never can tell by chuck berry. Especially during movie week, done up like John Travolta and Uma thurman in pulp fiction. It would just be so delightfully inappropriate for strictly!
The Four Lads - Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
The Smiths - This Charming Man
Argentine Tango
Sade - Smooth Operator
Sheryl Crow - Tomorrow Never Dies
Cha Cha Cha
Imagination - Music & Lights
Charleston
Blur - Country House
Foxtrot
The Chairmen of the Board - Give Me Just A Little More Time
Norah Jones - Don't Know Why
Jive
Alphabeat - 10,000 Nights
Sam Cooke - Twistin' The Night Away
The Temptations - Get Ready
Quickstep
Bobby Vee - The Night Has A Thousand Eyes
Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - (Love Is Like A) Heat Wave
Rumba
Céline Dion - Falling Into You
Tracy Chapman - Baby Can I Hold You
Salsa
The Pointer Sisters - Dare Me
Samba
Carly Simon - Why
Kaoma - Lambada
Sister Sledge - Thinking Of You
Viennese Waltz
Bryan Adams - Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman
Edwin McCain - I'll Be
Waltz
Joan Armatrading - Love And Affection
Louis Armstrong - We Have All The Time In The World
I can't really suggest anything for two of my favourite dances, Paso Doble and Tango! I'll have a think. Generally I would prefer to see these danced to traditional music.
I would have thought this more suited to a Cha Cha Cha rather than Argentine Tango
a great suggestion but for a foxtrot, i think! waltz should always have three beats per bar (that's the extent of my dance appropriate music knowledge there, haha.)
I also found this. A jive to you never can tell in the style of pulp fiction! And on dancing with the stars, no less. Strictly should go one better and do a dance to stuck in the middle with you enacting THAT scene from reservoir dogs.
Really Angela? I would have thought it was too moody and slow for a Cha Cha Cha, though I must admit that I struggle a bit with time signatures
It's always reminded me of 'When Doves Cry' for some reason, which I thought was an inspired choice for Rachel & Vincent's Argentine Tango (and yet seemed unsuited when recycled for Kimberly & Pasha's ballroom Tango).
I think Smooth Operator could only be a rumba. Far too slow for a Cha Cha Cha, and not right for an AT either;-)
Professional group dance. Viennese Walze.. Theme to Carry on Screaming.
I really liked it for Kimberley and Pasha's tango... but it is interesting how choreography can affect whether a song is suitable or not. For instance, I saw a video of a couple on dancing with the stars where they were dancing to les toreadors. All the comments were saying what a bad paso doble it was because "how are you supposed to choreograph a paso doble to such a cheerful, manic song?"
And then on the other hand you have Mr manic and cheerful Kevin Clifton who danced (and I presume did some/most of the choreography for) an absolute stormer of a paso with Susanna. For loads of people it was the dance of the series, they got great marks, a standing ovation, performed it on the tour etc.
There's obviously some real "wtf" moments with the music on strictly but I LOVE it comes together. I never thought I'd describe Rasputin by Boney M as "inspired!" It's kind of worth the odd argentine tango to smooth criminal to have moments like that imo.
I know what you mean Ellie. Sometimes on paper it sounds like a bad choice but does come together with the choreography. I agree with you about Rasputin, and another that I thought worked well that shouldn't have was 'Spectrum' for Abbey's Tango.
I've been listening to tous les memes by stromae a lot lately and could see it as a tango if it was sped up a little bit. i guess the beauty of it being a live band playing is that they can take a song with the right feel and adjust the tempo to make it suitable.
some others
Viennese Waltz
the theme music from harry potter
hallelujah
nights in white satin
kiss from a rose
foxtrot
after you've gone
quickstep
that man - caro emerald
putting on the ritz
some version of tu vuofFa l'americano (maybe like the one from the talented mr ripley.)
charleston
a little party never killed nobody
cha cha
blurred lines - robin thicke
bounce - iggy azalia
groovejet - spiller
Maybe BBC waiting for Prescott
(Rumba) - Fallen Angel by Frankie Valli
(Salsa) - Behind The Groove by Teena Marie
Dance With The Devil by Cozy Powell
i loooove that song and have been wracking my brain for which dance it would go with for a while and have come up with nothing. any helpers?
On other versions its been used for the Foxtrot. I am sure BBC could think of a style which the dance could suit
I love it too <333 Think it would be a great story dance too based on the song.
i could maybe imagine a samba but it's a bit of a stretch. might have to speed it up a touch?
Sorry got confused lol Its cause DWTS have done questionable foxtrots to music I assumed they did one to Roar.
The two performances I seen are
Australia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLOOBhY8dvI to Jazz
and
USA - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2906_UX9eKM to Contemporary
So not sure what SCD could use it for.
As for other music suggestions:
Charleston: Bad Boy Good Man by Tape Five
Cha Cha: I Hate This Part (remix) by PCD
Rumba: The Shadow Of Your Smile - Chuck Brown version
