We had more than enough police to deal with the riots in London. Only a few thousand were deployed, which was part of the problem. Police have to be improved, not increased.

They had police going down to london from other parts of the country to help the police in london as there were not enough of them

it is generally accepted, (in that it is the conclusion of every report written on the subject,) that the riots were a failure in policing policy. nothing to do with numbers.

basically the police didn't react quickly enough. they misread the start of the riots as a protest about mark duggan rather than just the lawlessness that it was.

it wasn't that the police didn't have the numbers, they just didn't deploy them.

on later nights the police in london were reinforced from the rest of the country. but that worked. we did have the numbers of police to cope.

we can't permanently employ more police for the one in 50 year event.

If people are reporting stuff on Youtube, Twitbook and internet forums then the police have a duty to investigate it.

I'm sure they'd rather be out nicking motorists if they had their own way.
they didnt bother to investigate when a local lady had her bag stolen. all she got was a crime number. they didnt bother to investigate when my sisters shed was broken into and all her garden tools were taken, including a very expensive lawn mower and an expensive racing bike. those things are too trivial. just let me nip over to twitter to slag someone off. we'll see how quick the response is. easy crime is all they bother about. oh yes. and overtime when the local folk festival requires massive over-policing.

All Forces have crime recorders these days, and they have to assess whether it is worthwhile to allocate a crime to an officer to investigate. In huge numbers of cases, it isn't.

The reality is, it is impossible for every crime to have an Officer attend, and deal with it. Hasn't happened for years.

There would need to be a vast increase in numbers to be able to do that again, but there are huge numbers of other things that would get a priority over that anyway.

Many areas are vastly under strength in respect of being able to do the job properly.

We have cheaper PCSOs taking over more tasks, and G4S are now getting in on the act.

I dread to think what it will be like in 20 years.

So you think they should have enough Police to cover every single eventuality? Even if it happens once in 20 years?

Police numbers fall 5,000 in a year, official figures show

Number of officers in England and Wales has fallen 9,625 since general election as spending cuts take effet They are a service not a buisness you can only cut things so far before you have not got the staff to do the job. Or do we just let G4S do the policeing

That is standard practice, and has been for decades.
