Google docs saving too frequently

Is there a way to limit or control the save feature in Google docs? It seems to be saving my document every other second, and as it saves it slows down my typing, so that it's often hard to get anything done. I read somewhere it was supposed to save every 3-4 minutes: is there anywhere to change this from whatever it's set to now, which is way too frequently and completely unworkable?
