I'm due to have one tomorrow and im worried as i suffer panic attacks due to dizzy spells with an inner ear condition. Has anyone on here had a blood test when they're on their period? do you feel dizzy or ill afterwards? why do they need to be done when you are on your period and already losing blood as surely your levels are high during ovulation. just hoping i don't get dizzy and end up with a panic attack

I assume this is what they are testing
Menstrual cycle day 3 ("day 3 labs") serum (blood test) evaluation. In reality these labs may be drawn on menstrual cycle day 2, 3, or 4 with the first day of full flow (spotting does not count) considered as menstrual cycle day 1. Common day 3 hormones that are tested are follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol, and luteinizing hormone (LH). In general a higher FSH level (in the context of a normal estrogen level) indicates a compromise in ovarian reserve.

    This is part of ORT
Ovarian Reserve Testing (ORT) is completed to estimate a woman's fertility potential and in theory is an indirect measurement of the overall egg quality and quantity. No specific test of ovarian reserve is perfect and optimally multiple measures, along with a patient's history and examination findings, are considered when making judgments about

All we be fine, try not to worry!

They take a lot more blood when you are pregnant :o:D

ask to lay down whilst they do it, most phlebotomists or nurses will be happy for you to do so.:)

I've had one done during my period to test hormone levels. It feels no different to having it at any other time! Just try to keep calm, there is nothing to get worried about.

At least its done now, do you have to have anymore?

Did you have anything to eat before you went or just get anxious of the needle? As you say no damage was done and im sure you werent the first to faint nor the last!

    Good luck with the results.

I've had both the 3rd day and 21st day. By memory they are the 2 check points they go by? I forget why right now. My progesterone is 2.9 so don't feel too bad.

From memory progesterone levels rise after ovulation - they peak around day 21 and then start to drop if there is no pregnancy which then causes your period to start.

IIRC Progesterone is also what causes your womb lining to thicken to receive the embryo, so if you have low levels on d21 either ovulation has not occured or any embryos may not be able to implant.

Yeah I believe you're right Ber, my problem is my cycles are out of whack so the dr sent me when we thought was day 21 but I doubt it was my day 21. I've been to a specialist since then who said not to worry and to use ovulation sticks which im starting next week.

    Anyway sorry to hijack OP!

Are you tracking your temps? I found that method to be a lot more accurate than OPK's alone.

    Hi
If your progesterone is low then you may have trouble with the egg attaching and if attached staying attached. A lot of women have this problem which can be solved by using natural progesterone cream AFTER you have ovulated until you come on your period, if you do not come on your period you can continue using until the third month when the baby or placenta will take over. If you continue using after pregnancy you will have to tell you doctor and may have to get your levels checked on a regular basis.

Also taking mefenamic acid and ibufrofen (NSAIDs) can change your womb lining and stop the egg attaching.

A good natural product to take to regulate your cycle and hormones is Vitex, this can be purchased online from sites such as Amazon or ebay, I took 2 x the following tablets everyday of my cycle and did not stop during my period.

No, but I think I will. I have read that it has a good success rate.

Chrisii2011, hope you are feeling better today, if you ever want to chat feel free to PM me.

I know the OP's dr seems next to useless but I don't recommend self medicating.

If I was the OP I'd be pushing for specialist tests - depending on age and how long she has been TTC - I think over 35's can have tests on NHS after they have been trying for a year?

Vitex is herbal so is safe to use. I agree about the progesterone cream, which is why I mentioned the doctor.

I think it is a year for under 35s and 6 months for over. But the OP can check with her doctor.
