What would everyone say to their kids about this if asked???

Personally, I would say that by leaving all the present buying to Santa, you're bad parents! Fancy not getting anything for your own child...

Seriously though, I think my mum got round this one by buying me presents from her, and from Santa as well. As to what you should say, I've no idea.

(I'm afraid I've got a weird mind... I'm just picturing your daughter tugging at your clothes and asking the question, and you replying 'I'll just ask the good folks of DS'... :D )

I've always bought pressies for my boys. And the big man supplied the stocking pressies. My boys would always be far more excited to see if he ate the mince pie, drank the gin, gave the carrots to the reindeer and, most importantly, left them a letter. He did. Every year. (left handed writing gives the correct cold, old man look to your writing). They're now too old to participate in all of that. I miss those days! Enjoy them whilst they last

We're not aloud to buy kids presents. Only Santa is allowed to do that.

    It's the law.

I do the same as scarttyblonde, works well for me :D Pressies from ME, stockings from Santa.

In your predicament though, I'd do what the others suggest and say you sent the money or have a ''contract'' with Santa,:)

Yup, we told our daughter that we bought them, and Santa delivered them.
She now tells her own kids the same thing.

Auntie and Uncle have been selling porn to Nazi's and are not on the good list this year, so you are buying them presents so they don't feel too bad.

    How about that? :)

We used to buy a few presents "from us" and the rest were from Santa.
Sorry but I don't see the point in telling the kids you send the money to Santa, it kind of defeats the point of the magic of it all!

Never destroyed the magic for me.

I was told that presents were sent to Santa who then delivered them all on Christmas night.

The fact a fat man came to my house in the middle of the night and left me with something i didn't have the day before was magic in itself.

I buy a present from myself to my son, usually his main present and goes under the tree. The smaller stuff is from Father Christmas and appears in his santa sack at the end of the bed.

My mum used to tell us that Santa could only afford presents for children and the grown ups have to get their own :)

We were always told (and are still told, in the case of my little brother and sister) that Mom buys the presents and sends them off to Santa, and he wraps them and brings them on Christmas Eve :)

I was always told (and did the same with my son), that Mum and Dad buy the bigger presents and Father Christmas buys little bits and pieces (stocking fillers), such as sweets, crayons, an annual, chocolate money, note books and so on. I was told that as Father Christmas has to give every child some presents that he only buys the small things.

some presents from Santa, some presents from mum and dad. How we always did it.

Plus when they're a little bit older and asking for ponies you can start to educate them that Santa isn't a limitless present resource.

(I think there may have been a year when my folks told me that Santa billed them for the presents, so no I couldn't have the spaceship/robot/computer system/elephant I wanted  )

Father Christmas brought the stocking presents and all the others were from mum and dad/grandparents etc. That's how we did it. It wasn't until this year (when I was 20!) that I realised people did it any other way.

We tell our 5 year old there are so many children in world that Santa only has time to deliver 1 present per child, otherwise it would not be fair. He's happy with that.

I tend to make Santa's present something i know he really wants but has forgotten about. This year was a Chocolate Coin Maker that he mentioned in summer, he is still trying to work out how Santa knew... magical

We always got some presents from Santa and some from our parents - this is what I'll be doing when my daughter is old enough

Tell your kids that only kids get presents from Santa, grown-ups dont, and you dont want to make the grown-ups feel left out thats why you buy them presents.

I always wrap some in different paper, they're my presents to the kids, the rest is from Santa.

My mum would say some of the presents (usually the expensive ones like a bike) were from Santa, and the rest were from Mum and Dad.

Santa brings the stocking, parents buy the main toy.

(I've just shown this thread to my Mum - she's sent me on a guilt trip over the years because I asked that question and she couldn't tell me the real answer!)
