Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was probably the most popular BBC import of the 1990's

The Simpsons & The X Files were 90s BBC imports. Both far more popular that L&C.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was getting around 12m viewers for series 2. The simpsons never limped above 2m on BBC2 and I seem to remember the X-Files was around 7m.

Although any of those figures would make a show a Hit! now

And yet both TXF and The Simpsons created bigger buzz and cultural impact than L&C ever did. Based purely on figures I can understand why L&C could be been as being more popular. L&C picked up high figures by virtue of being shown on Saturdays.
