Multitasking as such does not require a lot of memory, but you will have more programmes in the memory at the same time. And if you will have several memory intensive ones started then additional memory can be very useful.

Depends on the applications in question, but remember that iOS doesn't give *full* multi tasking, as only certain functionality is available for background processing.
It still means a part if not a whole application must be available in memory for the execution of the background job, making less memory available for other applications. The RAM in 3GS (256MB) was originally intended for 1 foreground app and a few apple apps with background processing. The question is if 256MB is sufficient for normal work without a need of swapping the apps out of memory. Having twice as much memory should make that problem less urgent.
jobs won't be happy nor the ipad snipers as there reason's for not getting a ipad are getting thin no multitasking (proswitcher) no usb (ssh) no flash (frash)
Looks nice. Jobs will have at least 10 people fired to calm himself down when he finds out If this works well then paradoxically JB can bring even more customers for ipad and actually make it more useful for web browsing. One can live without flash when the screen is as small as iphone's, but ipad is a different story.
Hell even YouTube is today available via html5 on iPhone and other portable devices. A great day for technology.
But it isn't really dead yet, is it?
Jobs wanting it dead (because Apple doesn't own or control it) does not make it so.
It's amazing how proprietary stuff that Apple owns or controls is fine, including total rubbish (iPhone and QuickTime on Windows are awful), but stuff that they don't own is unacceptable and must die.
Flash for free web video is terrible compared to the natural progression of HTML5. Alot of browsing is also done on mobile devices so why not help battery life by using the better format.

There's no reason for it not to be phased out.
html5 may well eventually take over from flash .. but not for a few years yet.
Was at the Apple Store yesterday and I played with an Ipad, I'm going to get my mum one. I think she'd like it as she's not great with computers and doesn't need much apart from the internet and a couple of games. I was also in there to look at MacBooks and I've decided on a 13" MBP.:D

don't do video (just mkv) and this is from the chap that did the spirit JB and just in beta (so fingers crossed it gets better)
you can imagine the adverts from adobe if he gets it working fine "isn't JB wonderfull" and no doubt be giving the hacker some money for winding jobs up
I got mine yesterday, I was looking to buy a laptop as I was getting fed up being stuck in one place with my PC which was bought before the advent of wi-fi. I thought I would get an iPad because I only really need it for the Internet and to play the odd game, mainly I liked it cos it looked so cooool!!!:D
I must state that I have never owned an apple product, and had never bought into the iPod/iPhone trend that most of my friends have.
So far I am beyond impressed, all the functions load up in milliseconds, it's perfectly comfortable to use on my lap (much more so than a laptop), the apps are great, and it looks beautiful. The on screen keyboard is just as easy to use as a regular one, in fact my only niggle with the whole thing is the way you have to hit a button to get the numbers up.
I downloaded the Kindle ( amazon) book reader as the books are cheaper, and spent an hour in bed reading a book I had just bought, it was just as comfy as reading a hardback book and with the screen brightness lowered didn't hurt my eyes at all.
WIth regards to multitasking and lack of flash, I can't say this bothers me at all, but it's early days yet.
All in all I have to say, yes, it really is worth it, for the average web surfer and casual game player you will love it. If you are looking to use it for work or more hardcore gaming then probably not.
ok folks - excuse the really dumb question! I'm getting an IPAD tomorrow, wasn't something i was looking to get, but as I won it, figure I might as well give it a go.
Anyway - can I sync it with my existing ITunes Library on my pc (or a part of it), or do I have to create a whole new library?
Thanks in advance
Michelle
power cut other night and ipad passed the time, ok I had a ups which lasted 1 hourish, neighbours(all outside chatting) where calling me when I went outside with ipad.
This article puts it nicely in picking 'top 10 performing netbooks'
Once you get over the novelty of an iPad, practical concerns come to mind.
I am sure there is always be a use for the iPad but for computing purposes netbooks better perform. http://www.infoworld.com/d/hardware/best-performing-netbooks-991
Take the article with a pinch of salt. There are already far better netbooks out there, including 2 core Atoms and 16 hours battery life.

YouTube is pushing html5 because of chrome. But I read somewhere that also porn industry may go to html5. Which will cause much bigger pressure than apple users throwing their toys out of the pram.

Whilst video may well head towards html5, it'll take a long time for flash to disappear as a game and animation platform. I dislike Apple's hypocritical stance on the fact that Flash is proprietary, something they are quite happy to ignore when it comes to their own technology.

I went with a convertible netbook tablet which gives some advantages of both. I'd probably still buy an iPad if I had the cash but there are clearly limitations to it's use. I also don't like this trend of reselling the internet to you as apps, I just want to access the internet.

Can you tell me which proprietary Apple technologies are in use on the internet?

It actually is not such a bad idea to have a component responsible for video and animation that behaves the same way across all platforms. Browsers can delegate that to it and it will behave exactly the same everywhere. Now with html5, all browsers are required to implement quite a complex functionality and chances are some of them do it slightly different. Wouldn't be the first time. They are all dealing with the same problems with different levels of know-how and skills available. IMO it would be better to address the existing issues in flash - security, performance, etc rather than push it away.

Also http://ipad.tvcatchup.com/ is good for the live stuff.

Not any as ubiquitous as flash. Quicktime comes to mind. Plus the mangling of epub DRM so they only work on Apple devices.
