I was just watching the F1 highlights and the showed a shot of Frank Williams.

For some reason I thought he was dead.

Anyone who you thought was dead but is still going - and still in public life and on telly?

Found out yesterday that Doris Day is still alive! Thought she was long gone... 90 years old... last of the Hollywood Golden Age movie stars. Bit too old for TV or publicity events though which is why you rarely hear about her.

After his stroke it always surprises me how long he has lasted.

But then again Kirk is a tough old bastard. :D

I seemed to think that Bill Maynard who played Greengrass in Heartbeat was dead but he isn't. He quit Heartbeat because of ill health and you never see him on telly now He has suffered ill health for years but has stayed alive apparently

I was just about to say 'Bernard Cribbins'.

For some reason I always get him and Michael Bentine mixed up. I know that one of them has died but I can never remember which one.

Sorry Bernard. Good to hear you're going strong.

I'm still surprised that Christopher Lee, Setsuko Hara, Eva Marie Saint, Olivia de Havilland and Louis Jourdan are still alive.

I do know that Luise Rainer is still around. She's 104 now, I think. She was born in 1910.

She has a show on Radio 2 every week....:)

Olivia de Havilland is a name from antoher era, that's still alive.

The other funny thing is when you find out people that died a long time ago in soaps (like Arthur Fowler or Dr.Legg) are still alive.

Same here. I was truly surprised when he was mentioned during the news coverage of Hurricane Katrina. He went missing during the hurricane, which had people fearing he had drowned, but he was found safe. I thought he died years before this.

They don't have to be. They might have retired and so you don't hear anything of them.

I just meant that it would be more surprising that if you thought they were dead but they were still on telly.

Bernard Cribbins is a good example with him being in Doctor Who a few years back and became quite popular again for a while.

He's been on Celebrity Pointless and The One Show this year. Is that the same as being retired?

I didn't say he was retired. I said the opposite.
