The cars hold a high value, you just got to look at Princess Dianas car old Escort RS turbo...how much is that worth now??
I don't think that's relevant. Anything like that has an alternative reason for being worth what they are.

Like on the recent For The Love Of Cars series where an Aston Martin went for a good price but a similar one that was used in The Persuaders is basically priceless as it has a history and not just one careful old lady.

If its that Moonstone blue one, which I know it is. Its not an RS500, the RS500 was a touring car, and the greatest touring car ever produced. The Sierra RS Cosworth came before the Sierra RS500 Cosworth.

Clicking on the link will bring you to a blue car, with foglights in the front bumper and no extra cooling duct and smaller ducts in the front bumper and a smaller splitter.

Off course the best colour is white, and its great that prices are on the up for all retro hatchback sporting cars.

Why it sold for just shy of £50,000 is beyond me as that's RS500 money.

I stand corrected, you are 100% right.
My knowledge of Fords is limited.

I know whoever bought it should be sectioned as they are obviously not of sound mind.

I concur. They were massively over rated and generally loved by rram raiders, chavs and people who didn't know much about cars. Audiband VW both had better cars of that era, For some reason the blue badge of shame had some kudos,

Ok fair enough, But the value for an Escort RS turbo is worth an awful lot of money, and in lots of cases worth more than what they were new.

LOL I personally agree to a point.

The sierra was not a "great" car to begin with until Cosworth got on board

No problem to the untrained eye both cars look alike. But they are totally different cars and look totally different when you take a closer look.

The RS500 had a different front bumper and splitter
Engine was slightly different had 8 fuel injectors(road trim used 4)
Tickford badges and a pinstripe/coachline with RS500 on the front wing
No foglights, but they were placed in the boot when new, in their place was fitted brake cooling grilles.
The rear spoiler 'whaletail' was different with a fitted gurney(spelling?) strip and also came with an extra lower spoiler like the later Escort RS Cosworth.
    the tailgate decal contained RS500.

Thats from memory, theres likely to be more.

I agree on that statement too, they were a pretty eyesore in low spec trim. Remove the spoiler from the RS and look at it side on and it doesn't look anything special. The first thing I think of when you mention Sierra is the whaletail. OTT 80's styling. but was needed to keep the car on track.

I have had a Fiesta Cosworth and a Fiesta ST. Neither compared to my Mk 3 Golf Gti, or indeed my Golf R. My R32 Skyline was a different class, now I j6st trundle about in a Golf GTD.

My knowledge is with BMW'S like I said earlier in the thread. But the Cosworth engine is a thing off engineering beauty along with the BMW S14 engine.

What can better a hand built twin cam engine like these were back in the 80's?

That's my point, the Golf was a great car to begin with.
I owned a Left drive mk2 G60 for a couple of years but got fed up with re building the engine between servicing lol :D

The engine fitted the the greatest BMW ever made then. The only BMW i'd want to own really the flared arches and spoiler sets off an already great looking car. I saw one on 20th June in new forest on German plates being chased by a Williams (1) Clio. I'd like to add a 1.9 205 GTi and a 2.0 16v Astra GTE to my collection of cars but no room. Ive had to shuffle my cars about including kicking out a very tidy Evo IV i adored.

I can understand that! My friend had a 67 thunderbird. It was a nightmare. My Skyline was my fave ever, it hurt to sell it!
Anyway, I am in my 40's now so a GTD is the best I can do without looking like a tosser. Never going to buy an mx5!

    Style over substance ;-)
    Horses for courses.
As for Hot Hatch pocket rockets the Renault 5 GT Turbo put the biggest grin on my face.

God no! I really would look daft (that and I would likely fall off it!)

A friend of mine had the moonstone blue one with the whaletail spoiler.

Unfortunately his love for repeatedly speeding in it landed him in prison for two months.

It may have a great engine but it's still a Sierra which set new standards in terms of bland ugliness.

Ah but then, The R5 had the ugliest dash I've seen in a car ever.My brother had a red 5, I hated it an old friend had a dimma one and had problem after problem with the engine fueling carb etc.

I'd have a proper mid/rear engine one though. But the Audi Quattro is the daddy off all rally cars,

Going off course its a real shame theres no mental rally cars these days, Gone are the Intergrale, Stratos, 205 T16, R5, 6R4, RS200, Cosworths.
Theres nothing continuing from the days manufacturers went all out producing road trim cars in order to enter competitions.

Back on track that Moonstone sold for over the odds and my link shows that people who own them cant understand why. meaning everyone thinks their car is worth more and in turn pushes the prices up so far the average working man can't afford one.
About 5-7 years ago you could pick one up not problem for £12K-£14K

Probably costs about £300 a year road tax and gets about 15 mpg.

Will be £235 this year, no idea on fuel economy but it ought to be fairly easy to get high twenties.

I remember liking the Sierra as a kid, but I don't think it's aged well, and the whale tail on the back just looks ridiculous in 2015.
