Google app on tablet and iPod

I have a new iPad mini, and an iPod which is about 4 years old. When using the latter's Google app I get a couple of minutes surfing and then I get thrown out. When I open the app again it tells me they they are unable to connect/network problems. I got an iPad mini, and both devices are linked ( same apps etc). The same thing happens to the Google app on the new device. There are no network probs, my OH's devices are fine. What is causing this? Any ideas? Safari is also a bit patchy too. I did not think it was possible to have a virus on Apple products, but could that be it? The app has been deleted and put back on again.
