Although Portugal uses the same PAL system as the UK, they, as most of Europe use a slight variation of it. The UK uses PAL I whereas they use PAL G. You would receive a picture but its likely that you would get no sound.
You can do a modification to the set though.
It is quite unlikely you'd get any sound, although some TVs are multistandard like Broonale says...
However if you got a portugese video recorder, cable box or satellite receiver and connect it via scart socket to your UK TV, you would get sound from those devices.
