To me, Matt is CG. I don't think he'll do it though...
He won't do it because he wants to have a career.

I liked a lot of her artwork before she turned to film, and Nowhere Boy was an assured, classy piece, so I'm interested with how she'll interpret the material*. It was certainly a surprise to hear she was attatched to it, I'll admit, but I'm intrigued as to what she sees in it and what she'll do with it.

*I think because of the success of the book people are expecting a straightforward adaptation that strays little from the text, as is often the case with big books put to screen. Easy to slag off from this perspective, of course, but it's hardly informed as to how it might actually pan out.

Charlie has often said he wants to do work he's proud of when he looks back over his career, rather than things that will make him famous/rich so I was shocked he attached himself to this. But when I heard Sam Taylor-Wood was directing, I thought, like you did, that maybe they weren't going to stick too much to the source material. And maybe that's why he got on-board. Then the proverbial hit th fan and he ralised he didn't want to live like that. Charlie is a wonderful actor - in terms of his talent he deserves to be a huge star - but being a huge star nowadays is more than just about the work - there's a whole lot of crap that goes with it.

^ People are expecting porn-like scenes but I wonder whether the film will just be loosely based on the books and somehow have more of a story, without all the graphic expectations.

I thought it was going to be erotica like Emmanuel's story of O. What's the difference? Is Basic Instinct soft porn?

I think Emmanuel has a better plot and more believable characters. :D

if you are going to make more story and have less porn, then why waste money buying the "50 Shades..." license? Just write a totally new movie, because that's pretty much what it will be without the humpy-humpy.

Easy. Fifty Shades of Grey is a highly recognisable title and it comes with a massive reader base.

It's an old practice, too. Casablanca, The Thin Man, The 39 Steps, The Maltese Falcon, It's a Wonderful Life and so on. All these are film adaptations of popular plays, novels or short stories. Since those worked pretty well, is it a wonder that so many companies still option novels, novellas and short stories? :D

The moment they do that the film has bombed before it's even released - the entire selling point of the books is the sex scenes.

^ I just don't want to believe that someone is really going to make a film full of S&M scenes!
