We are probably going to get a cheesy 80s song eg. rick astley, slowed down to a piano ballad or done with an acoustic guitar (trying to get an ella believe moment) and they will be given a standing ovation and told how original they are when they're not. This will probably be the contestants peak and they will go between weeks 5 and 7 of the show even though they began as front runners.

We will also have at least one disaster where the contestant is ripped into by the judges and called dated (think uj dont stop me now, scott from series 8 etc) where the contestant may cry the whole way through xtra factor and then get through on pity votes.

Do you actually know that these are the song choices, Barry, or are you just posting what you think would be good?

what I think would be good :) I put them in spoilers because not everyone wants to know who is in top 12 or those who are possibly in top 12

What an awful theme  Although I guess it does fit in with the dated contestants they have this year...

In your opinion. There are many who think the 80s were a great era.......why do each generation think they are the experts on music

I absolutely cannot WAIT for Abi Alton's John Lewis advert-esque piano version of Never Gonna Give You Up or Girls Just Wanna Have Fun... She's already done I Wanna Dance With Somebody in that way, hopeully they force her to do an upbeat song (lol as if) :p

It's pretty well known that more young people watch XF than old? That doesn't mean no older people watch it, but it also doesn't mean that having an '80s Songs' theme will mean more people will know the songs that they're singing, more likely the opposite...

X Factor have young and old audience and old songs will always be on the show whether you like it or not.

    http://tellymix.co.uk/reality-tv/the-x-factor/135981-x-factor-2013-to-feature-more-cheesy-tracks-to-keep-viewers.html#ixzz2NKuivdnS

The producers have thankfully learnt from last series that the older viewers want the oldish classics on the show.too. The way Tulisa alienated the older audience by criticising Gary's old song choices for Chris was insulting to the older audience and viewers in general.

What are the odds on With or Without You?
Who Wants To Live Forever/RadioGaga/I Want to Break free

and a group song of Wake Me Up Before You GoGo

Tbh, I think this won't suit the bands? I can't see any of the four rumoured bands doing anything cheesy really now?

Are people really complaining about this theme? 80's music is great! And I was born in the 90's...

Give me a 80's theme over the wrist slitting Big Band theme any day of the week. Big Band was more horrendous than Misha B each week, sounding like a cat with it's tail caught in a lawnmower.

I don't think I've ever read a post on this forum that I've agreed with more. Pretty much every word of that post was perfect.

I like 80's music as in Fleetwood Mac, U2, The Jam, INXS, The Police, Duran Duran sort of 1980's but I'm fully excepting the 80's theme to be more Flashdance than Where the streets have no name.

I just hope they don't give the acts an amalgamation of power ballads and cheesy singles.

I'm disappointed - I love music from the 70's and the 90's but was never really an 80's fan.

I read somewhere last year that the producers where going to be doing themes like this to get some of the older viewers back, following the popularity of the Maloney last year.

So we'll get the belters panting out Simply the Best or The Power of Love, the boybands and teeny boppers singing dubstep versions of Uptown Girl and Souli Roots telling us that she wants to be our sledgehammer. Great.

That means we'll have to suffer through another over earnest With Or Without You, and some shouty diva going nuts on Purple Rain.

Some good selections of music to get their teeth into but as you say some big ballads toned down and the usual Flashdance/Fame tunes. Love to hear something by Paul Weller/The Jam. Don't think I have ever heard a song by the Jam on the X-Factor before.

I loved the 80s too but my favourite decade of music was the 60s especially the Kinks

    Ridiculous theme.

I don't know anything about the 80s. This show isn't about the past. Give us current songs by famous singers. Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, 1D, Little Mix, Ed Sheeran, Bridget Medler, Ariana Grandd, Emblem3, Fifth Harmony etc. I'm not gonna know any of these old singers....

I just don't wanna hear old music, eww

My guess the theme is to help ease Sharon in with something she is comfortable with.

I am not usually a fan but she has been ok so far, the mentoring is where it usually goes all wrong for her.

If it was something current it may be disasterous for her overs, but this will help ease them and Sharon in
