The fate of this woman awaits a lot of people. They will die and for weeks, months or even years, nobody will know they're dead because nobody cared about them being alive enough to check on them.

It's a legal requirement so you are leaving yourself open to prosecution. Doesn't matter how many times you move.

WTF would you think I don't know that.
You seem to have missed the point of the post.

Was there any more light shed on why she was in the women's refuge?

There seems to be a lot of collusion that she had 'isolated herself', but how much had that been done that for her?

Attracting a lot of male attention, some of it intense.....there's nothing quite like an intense pyscho getting intense about that attractiveness and intense about the male attention.....

Isolating them from friends and family is just the starter for ten in the abuse continuum, and because of society's propensity to pathologise the victim is remarkably easy for them to do.

Am obviously not sure what happened to this lady, but wouldn't be surprised if her beauty and then lifestyle were like cocaine to some asshole out there.

This happens very regularly. In fact, it's almost certain that someone is lying dead in their house right now and has been doing so for at least 6 months, even as we discuss this!

    Being what precisely?
You seemed more keen in telling us how you've flouted the law for the past twenty years.

Oh give over, you do some selective quoting, and suddenly it's about flouting the law, it's clearly about the census as you mentioned it in your post.
I and another poster have mentioned how many people go missing every year.
Maybe they're all signed up to the census too and everyone who's looking for them have missed that obvious source.
    Yes 17, your point been?

I'm not on any Census, haven't been for about 15 years plus, probably nearer 20 years now.
Do you really think someone who moves every year or 2 years is going to be bothered about the census, really?

Well if they were looking for her and she was already Dead, do you think they'd have found her, if so how?
There's also the battered women's refuge thing, maybe she was hiding out from whoever drove her to a women's refuge.

OK whatever it is you think you're winning, you win.

I feel sorry for her, having to go all those years watching bbc. Poor lass, lying there, while Dirty Den returns and the mentioning of death itself in the news and drama serial.

I know this is random, but do dead bodies sweat? Just thinking all those hot summer days that would have gone by?

You've done this before, back in 2011.
3 years of bbc 1 from 2003 to 2006, gives me the chills, all those dramas where people have died Dirty den being murdered, crimewatch and she is there dead and decomposed in the dark, just awful. It is creepy thinking about it, anyone agree?:(

It's much worse than that CC......you really don't want to know believe me. I watched a documentary about a team of men who specialise in cleaning up houses where a decomposed body has been found. Obviously before they go in the body has been removed, but it's then their responsibility to totally clear, clean and fumigate the property......even floorboards have to be replaced in some cases.

It wasn't pleasant viewing, but fascinating. Needless to say they have 'seen it all' and prepared for anything.

It's amazing over three years that nobody checked on her. It sounds like she was an independent free spirit that nobody worried about. Still, you would think somebody would have been worried.

I truthfully think it is all too common. with social networking and stuff you can talk to people without leaving the house in search of company. I am in my early forties and the diminished number of people who I am in regular contact with is astounding. I come from a big family and twenty years ago I had loads of friends and family. But with people moving away, unemployment and deaths my whole structure of close loved ones is virtually none existent. My mum and sister live in England and they do not bother at all, it is not a result of anything I have done, you just lose that connection. Fewer and fewer people would notice if I was not around from one year to the next. My neighbour rings me if she has not seen me for a week out the back putting washing out (god love her) I am married but no children. There is a woman who lives behind me,she is in her seventies and none of her sons talk to her. Having children does not stop someone from growing old and alone. Relatives become estranged and friends move on. Through no fault of your own you could wake up some day and there is nobody who would even ring you if they had not seen you in a while. I think it is a symptom of todays society and peoples fascination with the story of Joyce Vincent is a result of fear, we all know that it could happen to anyone. There are the lucky ones who have a close family unit. But in todays society this occurence will probably become more commonplace:(

I think the internet, texting, and social networking actually has a lot to answer for when it comes to people becoming isolated in the "real world". On one hand it's a great tool for the disabled/housebound/socially awkward but on the other it can make people become very apathetic about keeping those much more vital real world connections.

One of the greatest invention that is the internet is also the worst, in some ways...

to be fair, if it wasn't for my husband and his family, I could well believe that I could have ended up being one of those people. Before him, there were months where I didn't have meaningful communication from people. I had friends, but not ones that would have noticed if I'd disappeared, they would have thought I was off doing something more interesting. I once changed my email address, moved house and didn't answer my phone for 6 weeks back in 2006 and my family didn't even notice. And my family aren't bad people, we just aren't as close as we used to be, we all have busy lives and live all over the country. I used to have recurring dreams about ending up being a "leaker" and my cats eating my remains before starving to death too, it was only once my husband and I had been living together a while that I stopped having them.

My husband and his family are completely different though, they all live within 20 miles of each other and his mother, bless her, rings if she hasn't heard from either of us in two days.

I pre-ordered the DVD of Dreams of a Life from Amazon and was looking forward to getting it on the 12th, but with no explination they've delayed the release date until the 19th. Hopefully it will arrive on Monday and the release won't be delayed again. It sounds like a fascinating, well made film and I want to see it.

    I agree, good post.

Its like many technological advances, they can be used for good or bad. The world of television and internet isnt real life, only by having good and truthful relationships with people outside of a television/computer screen and getting out there in the world are you really living and really interacting on a person to person basis. Not that the internet cant be great because it can

Its sad for some impressionable teenagers and others to live their lives out on facebook instead of enjoying the moment and enjoying real life: everything is about how well you come across on facebook etc, as long as you appear to be having a good time !! ok that might be an exageration but i believe theres some truth in it

If I disappeared off facebook for a couple of days, I'd have all my mates hammering at my door to see if I was ok!

No, of course they don't! They do various other rather nasty things, though, like bloating. According to Patricia Cornwell's books (big fan, me), the smell of a dead body lasts for a very long time, and it's horrendous. Anyone opening the letter box must have noticed it.

Yes, I can easily see this happening to me, that would maybe be my fate, but compared to the horriffic abuse I had done to me in my life, people know and nothing was done, so basically that would mean it was all officially my fault. This fate though sad after everything that I had done to me wouldnt bother me, I have to be concerned about that I havent as yet been able to commit suicide, so basically more terrible things will happen to me just the same as always. There are lots of unlucky people

But what was she doing being able to get an income for three years. You don't usually get an income coming in to pay direct debits for three years without having to go into work to earn the salary, or going to sign on surely?

    Some people have private incomes.

Really glad C4 are showing this movie, it didn't come out that long ago and I wanted to watch it, it's a fascinating but deeply saddening story.
