European customs ordered to seize PlayStation shipments in legal dispute
Confiscations ordered after Asian electronics giant LG wins preliminary injunction against Sony in acrimonious patent battle
The ruling by the civil court of justice in the Hague means that all new PS3s have to be confiscated as they are imported into the UK and the rest of Europe for at least 10 days.
If the injunction was extended it could mean consoles disappearing from high street shelves. It is understood that Sony and computer games retailers typically have about two to three weeks' worth of PS3s in stock across the continent.
....
LG argues that Sony PS3s infringe a number of its patents relating to playback of Blu-ray Discs. LG called for an investigation into the PS3's Blu-ray use in a filing with the US international trade commission earlier this month, and said it sought a "permanent exclusion order ... excluding entry into the United States" of the games console.
If Sony is found to have infringed LG patents, it could be forced to compensate the South Korean manufacturer for each PS3 it has sold around the world, which could cost hundreds of millions of pounds.

that one might be worth hanging no to to see if stocks do actually dry up. Could be worth a bob or too.
Sound: I think Sony sued LG first over mobile phone tech, so this is really pay back from LG. http://www.talkandroid.com/24957-sony-sues-lg-over-patents/
...or maybe LG are pi$$ed that Sony removed linux from their PS3s too LOL
lol I have 2 others ps3 slim 80gb thats for sale and the 60gb CFW one thats never really used cus people are to piracy driven these days.
on topic what has sony infringed ?
There has been no confirmation of this. only speculation that began with tesco dropping ps3 price becuase 20% of games and consoles then to compete with that others did same thing. Sony have no reason to protect current console from Piracy as unless sony leak some keys 3.56 will stay unhacked.
Sony are pirates and like to copy other people`s work so it seems according to a judge!
Grab yours quick before they dissapear forever!

Funny, I would have thought you would approved this move considering it is stopping patent piracy. Sony should have made sure they hadn't ripped anything off. It is pretty hippocritical to launch a campaign against "Piracy" while pirating yourself. That is why I cannot stand your moral diatribes.
Arn't we both hypocrites here? Suddenly you approve this stuff when it's against Sony, your scene (ok not YOUR Scene, but the PS3 Hacking) is declaring this a Win for them.
And yet again, it's us legitimate gamers who are losing out!
Overall it's a stupid thing, but LG were quicker then Sony, they both stole off each other, so it's only a matter of time before Sony pull a move to block LG phones, ...shame no one will care about that device being blocked though.
I don't approve of piracy. That is why I am against Sony ripping of IP developed by LG.
But you were in favour of Custom Firmwares being released for the PS3, which use Sony's Firmware code, altered, hench, Pirated their own OS.
Not really, since the custom firmware patched Sony's own firmware. I didn't download a pre patched CFW.
Blu ray was made by three companies. Sony, phillips and Panasonic. All japanese companies. These koreans wished they had the piece of the pie long ago
The truth is that the patent system is ****ed. LG is just acting dirty because sony sued them first for mobile tech patent infringement. Now a decent company would fight back and defend itself from these allegations.
But no LG decides to play dirty and sue over alleged blu ray patents. This is just a delaying tactic bu LG in the hopes that sony sits down and discuss their suit against them over mobile tech.
custom firmware is sony firmeware. It has been modified illegally. Stop playing semantics here.
Crackers cannot design their own software from the ground up. they are just viruses using the hard work and resources of other legit developers to do break security measures and run their own software.
In other words, what you guys are doing is taking sony designed software built on sony designed hardware, modifying it and breaking the security system on the software.
And you guys have the audacity to say it's your software.
I actually agree, the problem is that people can now patent abstract concepts, like 'multiple camera angles' during the playback of movies. It is one of the many things wrong with copyright/patent law.
but equally another thing that is wrong with copyright law is that it is used to reinforce the nature of closed systems like the iphone. There are exceptions to the rule but the fact that it is so easy to sue someone who actually hasn't pirated content copyright law shouldn't be used to reinforce an anti-competitive market or the idea of system lock down.
If you have used a patch. You haven't downloaded sony code. you have patched it. Reverse engineering for interopability reasons is perfectly legal. and we have paid for it we own it. We just don't own the intellectual property behind that software. If I was redistributing patched CFW you would have a point but I am not.
I agree with this ^^^
However Philips are a Dutch company Not that I'm trying to be pedantic or anything, just saying :D
lol Phillips is a Dutch company. Koreans have some massive corporations like Samsung. The way you talk is like they all live in mud huts or something.
Call them to complain

Whose to say that Sony's original suit is any more legitimate than LG's. It works both ways.
I'd argue that Sony provoked the situation by suing LG in the first place.
Many of these big companies could sue each other for multiple copyright/patent infringements....but tend not to as it's an unwritten rule that they let minor infringements slide as they know it could bite them in the ass otherwise.
Sony threw the first punch...and LG dodged it...LG threw one back and it landed.
You take on another heavyweight company...and they are going to fight back.
Good marketing move in a battle against 360.
