Immigration Minister Mark Harper resigns as his cleaner was working here illegally!
Minister resigns as he employed a cleaner who did not have a visa to work in the UK. I am more shocked that he was too lazy to do his own cleaning.

Were you equally as shocked when Patricia Scotland was caught out in very similar circumstances ?
I think it is embarrassing for them both but particularly embarrassing for the (now former) immigration minister
Why more so for him than for her ?
Tory or Labour - both would rather employ cheap foreign labour than British workers!
Are you totally incapable of addressing the topic of a thread when it's about Tories? This is about the Conservative Immigration minister Mark Harper who didn't go through the checks he expects everyone else to. Not about anyone else, about him.
What do you make of it then? Bit awkward to say the least isn't it?
More like someone found out and threatened to tell.
Perhaps British workers didnt want the job?
Hey that is what globalisation is all about. If you don't like it vote for a party that is against globalisation - if you can find one.
And for what its worth it seems there is questions around the letter she (the cleaner) had from the Home Office giving her leave to remain
We could do with more like him in the HoC.
An Immigration Minister who is employing an immigrant as a cleaner, directly, not an agency
(Really??:o) probably has no choice but to look at her papers every month without fail.
But at this early stage, I feel sorry for him even though I do not like what I have seen of him.
Wonder how much the fine is?
The documents turned out to be forged and he has mislaid the copies, so he asked again and ran them past the border agency checkers and they turned out to be forged.
Nice to see an immediate resignation without second thought though. Hid did not deliberately employ an illegal or turn a blind eye to her status.
Is that correct? He asked her for proof of her right to work in this country, I assume consulted the website to select the right documents required and definitely made copies. That is all he asks of employers and will soon ask of landlords.
If you are an employer and can show you have followed these steps your are protected legally from the £10,000 fine for each illegal immigrant you have employed.
The difference is, as immigration minister, he has set himself a higher standard than he is asking of others, based on the media reports.
He performed the check expected of employers. When he produced the immigration bill he went one step further and had the documents checked for forgery, something British employers and eventually landlords are not required to do.
There is no fine, as no employer is expected to be an immigration officer, despite what the left says. All that is asked is that people do not deliberately employ illegals or make no effort to check. Being fooled is not a breach of the law.
So you keep suggesting. Are you saying the announcements at the time, the media coverage of how it would 'crack down' on illegal immigrants getting work and how unscrupulous employers would no longer be allowed to use cheap labour, were wrong then? Was it all hype, that the fines were just window dressing and that nothing would change as long as someone had a copy of some papers on their files?
You need to take fresh instructions from central office.:D:D;-)
