She has actually performed that song a million times better than that before. It was at an awards show on 2009. It's on YouTube but I couldn't find a good quality video. She looked very emotional last night.
I wasn't blown away by it. In fact I found myself wondering why they didn't just use a recording of Whitney singing the song while the photos of 'those who passed in the last 12 months' were shown on the big screen.
The other thing that annoyed me was the audience noise. It seemed odd having them behaving like the X-Factor audience when the song was supposed to be a tribute. I also felt sorry for Jennifer having to wait until the audience had shut up (after she'd sung the first, unaccompanied, part of the song) before she could continue. She was emotional enough as it was, without the added strain of having to wait until the audience had shut up. I'm all for audience appreciation...at the end of the performance.

You know, that did cross my mind too. I mean what would be a better and more respectful tribute than listening quietly to Whitney sing in that very unique voice? That really, no one else can emulate, no matter how well meaning the intention.
It was stunning, she had around 24 hours notice, she was given a song that had been so beautifully sung by Whitney and she herself was still raw following the death and she was an utter professional to pull it off.

I cried my eyes out watching that.:(
Perhaps because she was upset, which is understandable.
Really?
I thought it was heartfelt and beautiful.
I thought she did a beautiful job, given the circumstances.
Get off the fence why don,t you:D:D:D
I thought it was a bit awful (quality-wise, as a performace) but perfectly understandable and therefore meaningful under the circumstances.

Yes.
I realise being pitch-perfect wasn't the point as it was meant to be a tribute, but it just sounded like a struggle towards the end.
I'm not sure attempting to emulate such a uniquely-sung song is always necessarily a good idea on these occasions.
