Surprised there hasn't been a thread on this. Yet another teacher in trouble over intimate relationships with a student.
Curiously she has simply received a ban.

Whatever is the world coming to?! >:(
Why does there need to be a thread on it?
She was not his teacher.
They kissed at 1am in the morning at a leavers ball, therefore he was no longer a student at the time.
They did not start a relationship until months later.
He was 18 at the time.
Errr...whats the problem?
Also, I had read that she has been living and working in Saudi Arabia for the last 2 years...so exactly WHEN was she dismissed if the story is only being reported now?
If it was a man it would be 10 pages by now.
Could be because the pupil's 18. More might have happened if he had been underage.
Curiously?
He was no longer at the school
He wasn't her pupil.
So the thread title is completely wrong?
Ah, but one of them was a woman. And they're evil. Or something.
But as others have said: he wasn't her pupil, he had technically left school anyway, so why not?
The ban I would assume is more to do with her buying alcohol for under 18's in a pub and asking them to lie about it. The kiss whilst maybe not entirely appropriate , it was a leavers ball and they did not start any type of relationship until some time after he had left the school. This case is very different to say a teacher having sex with an underage pupil.

Why is it curious?
No law has been broken.
What punishment - if any - do you feel would have been appropriate?
A lifetime ban perhaps sounds harsh but I don't know the full details.
Breaking guidelines and professional codes of conduct gets you a ban. Which is what she got. Nothing curious about it. It's breaking laws that gets you arrested.
I assume the rules for England and Wales are the same as those linked for Scotland and the ROI. In this case the ladies ban will have been in connection with her buying alcohol for underage pupils and possibly for the kiss at the leavers ball , her later contact with the young man will one would assume not be as relevant as he was no longer a pupil and any relationship occurred some months after he had left the school.
