Hey all ,

I was given a mini video camera for my birthday a few months back ,it deals in mp4 which means I can't edit videos on windows movie marker as I usually do .I've been searching ever since for some software to edit with ,with no luck. It seem a massive waste to have the camera gathering dust because I can't do anything with the videos :o

It needs to be
-Free
-Support mp4
-Not a leave a massive watermark of the program name in my video! ( This happened when I attempted to convert some clips so they could be used in windows movie maker )
-Be fairly easily to use like movie maker

Can anyone recommend anything?

    VirtualDub should do it.

windows movie maker can handle mp4 files just fine. you need to understand that mp4 is not a specific type of video. in this context it is just just a container. a way of combining different video and audio codecs.

so you may not have the codec used by your camera. the usual method would be to install mediainfo:
    http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
to see what video codec your camera is using and then download and install it.

    virtualdub can only open avi
VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows platforms (98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/7), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

what are you trying to do, just chop the file around or something else ?

As flagpole mentioned, WMM can handle mp4 as long as you have the correct codec installed. Have a look at this pack of codecs,
