    Looking forward to this.

I loved About Schmit and Sideways so hopefully this will have a similar vibe.

If you're a fan of Alexander Payne's other films (Sideways, About Schmidt) then this downbeat family yarn set in Hawaii will most certainly win you over.

Clooney once again proves himself to be quite possibly the most versatile actor currently working in Hollywood.

Far from dashing, he looks (and probably more importantly) acts like a regular Joe. Well, a regular Joe with a hell of a lot of cash behind him.

But it's really a beautifully crafted family piece with some excellent performances from his young cast.

Hell, even the appearance of the annoying Matthew Lillard didn't disrupt in any way. In fact it turns out he may well be able to act after all. Maybe that's pushing it too far...

Well written, well acted and well deserving of its recent Oscar nominations.

    Review here.

Saw the trailer for this at the cinema the other night. Def going to watch it. We all went "ahhh". Not sure if it's just because George Clooney appears to be just a regular (if not dashing looking) Dad in it :o

Will probably give it a miss at the cinema.

I saw Clooney in Up in the Air on DVD the other night and whilst it's a splendid movie, I can't help thinking it would have been an even better film without Clooney in the lead role.

He has a touch of the Keanus - nice, likeable guy in real life, but very little range, essentially acting the same way regardless of the character he's being asked to portray.

Wasn't really expecting much from this, premise wise, but it turned out to be a little gem of a film....Helped by the fine performance from Shailene Woodley, who stole the acting honours from George Clooney....one to watch, the film & Shailene.

    Sid Rocks....

    I loved it.8/10

thought it was good but best film?! Oh well, it's the Oscars...
All the performances were excellent I thought.
I loved About Schmidt and loathed Sideways - this one in the middle I think.

I thought that too, he was just a bit unnecessary. But overall a good film, if a little sad :(

    Hell no!

What is so versatile about playing the same charming smug character he plays in every film, his performance in Oceans 11 is no different to his other films. That is Clooney as himself.

I was really really disappointed with this film, to be up for best picture at the Oscars and Clooney for Best Actor, I can only think its a case of the emperor's new clothes as the films is very poor.

Clooney is good when he is playing Clooney I loved him in Up in the Air and especially Michael Clayton, but with this it was like watching George Clooney trying to have us believe he is a struggling Dad and I found him very very unconvincing.

This coupled with the fact that none of the characters were likeable, George/Dad need to grow a pair, the oldest daughter although pretty to look at was beyond annoying! And Sid, what an uncomfrotable, unnecessary piece of 'comic relief' if there ever was one! Also George had very little chemistry with the daughters and it all seemed quite forced and we were left really not caring about what happened to any of them.

Honestly this is defintiely one of Georges weakest roles, and the movie is poor and I say that as a fan of George, and as a big fan of About Schmidt - totally totally overrated.

Yes, very annoying at the start, and I was wondering, why is he still around the daughter, dump him Alex, before your granddad kills him.....But by the end, I really got to like him, he was OK.

I really liked this. Along the lines of 'The Help',it's an emotive experience, without extreme drama.

Thank you! Tried remembering the name of this film the other day and couldnt. Enjoyed it way more than the Descendants to be honest. It's a good film but not quite sure if it's worthy of the massive buzz. Ides of March was definately more oscar worthy imo.

I saw this and i was pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect to like it that much, i expected it to be far more quirky but i really liked it and was hugely enjoyable to watch. I was engaged with the story and not only that but it's very funny at times and has a wry sense of humour. I'm not a huge fan of George but have seen a fair few of his films and i do think in The Descendants he has given the best performance of his career to date hence the Oscar buzz. I'm not sure i could see anyone else do it better than George here to be honest.

Loved the whole ensemble as well incl. the actors who played his two daughters Scotty and Alexandra, who i think also made the film along with George. It's not an AMAZING film but i can see why it's getting the praise it has because this particular kind of story isn't the norm in America while over here in the UK we see these kinds of stories all the time on tv drama and in film.

I do think The Ides of March is a better movie but George really wasn't the star of that film, in this he is and it shows. Recommended but don't expect it to change your life.

Nothing I've seen makes me want to watch it. Clooney does seem to specialise in dreary crap these days. Oscar nods just underline the need to avoid.

When I watched Solaris I remembered that German reporter that got chewed out by Clooney for saying it was boring. The German was right.

Clooney's acting in this film is really bland - the way he runs in a particular scene is cringeworthy

He gets upstaged so bad by Shailene Woodley

did you see the same film i and other people saw? There was supposed to be a bit of awkwardness between him and his daughters as he had not looked after Scottie on his own since she was 3 and could not cope with her and Alex had a drugs/drink problem from which she got better so that is why you may have thought there was little chemistry. i felt they were very believable as a family and George portrayed his role perfectly and movingly. and his daughters were amazing, especially Shailene who imo should have a Oscar nomination but strangely she was snubbed.

Overall this is by far one of the best films i have seen i ages and Sid was a interesting character as at first he was annoying but the more time he spent with them the more he appreciated the situation and it was good to have a non family viewpoint on the situation.

George Clooney has to be the most overrated actor in recent history. Completely one dimensional and unconvincing in every role he plays. This is no exception. Who you know can get you everywhere with the Academy, it seems. It's pretty disgraceful that performances from Fassbender, Gosling and even Sirkis are snubbed in favour of this bore.

As for the film, overrated too. In no way a technical masterpiece, no standout performances, somewhat entertaining yet instantly forgettable script and story. It's the biggest award season mystery for years if you ask me.

I saw this earlier in the week, I thought it was pretty ho hum, to be honest. Perhaps because I've had a good run of seeing some really good films recently, it just felt rather dull and uninspired for the most part. Clooney was pretty good, I'll give it that much, but overall not anything to write homes about. 5/10

Theres akward being portrayed in a real way and I dont think the relationship with George and the daughters felt real, it was more like very akward acting.

And Sid being interesting, honestly there was as much depth to the character as a sliver of a rollie..he had ONE sentacne where he revealed why there might be a relationship between him and the daughter, honestly I can see there attempts to provide some comic relieft but it was a little ineffective!

My feelings exactly. Clooney got it just right, allowing us to glimpse what he was going through without overplaying it. The great thing about the film is that it allows the actors the space to behave naturally and not have histrionic fits of sobbing or shouting or whatever. They act like real people would in their situation. I found it quite moving, and funny in a subtle, understated way; there were plenty of chuckles from around the cinema so I think it's found an audience.

    And Sid does indeed rock.

These were my feelings exactly about George Clooney until I saw The Descendants a couple of days ago. He was brilliant. I was surprised to think that, especially against such a strong performance by Shailene Woodley.
