you can still use get_iplayer to record radio shows(and tv shows) by entering the the shows manually rather than using the web pvr https://squarepenguin.co.uk/guides/tv-download-guide/#How_do_I_record_a_programme_with_get_iplayer

Please excuse my ignorance, but having identified the 'pid' of the show to be recorded, just where does it need to be input?

If you're new to getiplayer it's far easier to use the web pvr recorder, copy the url for the programme in question from the programme play page on the the bbc iplayer website, paste the url into "quick url" box , and press record.

Otherwise you're using the command line prompt version of get_iplayer, which has a whole load of instructions and commands and syntax which that post ignores.

It strikes me this may be a first shot from the BBC, I suspect they are moving to a DRM model for iplayer , something that forces you to show you have a subscription fee (ie a tv license) before you can access iplayer, and if you want to download and keep, you'll also be forced to pay more

You already do have to pay to download to keep BBC programmes via iTunes, Google Play, Blinkbox et al.

Using get_iPlayer has always been unlawful.

I imagine the BBC will start using DRM soon too, but that's irrelevant to subscription on iPlayer - Mubi doesn't use DRM and is subscription. 4OD has no subscription but does use DRMed streams.

    Got that, it works thanks.
Can you get it to "series link" like this- so every episode of say a radio show?

I'm not surprised that it's come to this. However it's a shame there's no "official" way of taking radio shows offline to listen to for later playback.

    .

Not any more - look at post #23 in this thread, that's what kicked off this discussion.

Using Get iPlayer using the PID is actually a lot easier than searching for programmes as I've been doing until now. Hope it keeps working though

EDIT - although it doesn't include metadata or nice easy filenames

    It's not working for me. When I do that it says;

INFO: Trying pid: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04l3nvj using type: radio
INFO Trying to stream pid using type radio
INFO: pid not found in radio cache

WARNING: No programmes are available for this pid with version(s): default
    Recording complete

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Works for me, although it initially says 'pid not found in radio cache'

The character between the 4 and 3 is a letter l just in case you typed it as a 1

Thanks, but I copied and pasted it, so definitely the right url. I just opened get iplayer as normal, copied and pasted the entire url into the 'quick url' box and clicked on 'Record'. Are there any steps I've missed out? It's so annoying not being able to download shows and put them on my ipod anymore!

I had trouble with radio to start with but this worked (Count Arthur Strong, change PID of course for what you want)

    ~$ get_iplayer --pid=b00x97hy --type=radio

How will DRM work for foreign audiences, that the BBC love to give material to, all paid for by the British licence fee payer?

I have the same problem. I copied and pasted as described and got this
"INFO: Trying pid: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04l3m32 using type: radio
INFO Trying to stream pid using type radio
INFO: pid not found in radio cache

WARNING: No programmes are available for this pid with version(s): default"

What am I doing wrong, please?

Any technical queries should be done on the get_iplayer forum, not Digital spy
    http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer

The forum accepts plain text emails to post.

What a terrible piece of web software - you have to click into each message at a time...

I had the same problem at first, but I found that if you leave the word "programme" out of the filename it works.
Eg use http://www.bbc.co.uk/b04l3nvj instead of http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04l3nvj

Aha, that works! Thank you very much for the info, really appreciate it! :)

The bbc promised that we would be able to download radio shows from iplayer when radio downloader ended-i don't have 3g or 4g on my current phone simcard and can't rely on wifi so using get_iplayer is the only way to get shows on my mobile to listen to at my leisure,so come on BBC offer us radio downloads and i'll stop using get_iplayer :)

Use Rarma Radio to record the stream. The BBC cant nobble that one!

v2.68.2 allows scheduling of recordings in the free version.

Next April is the current planned roll out by the beeb of radio downloading.

Till then (or a new version of gi) I've gone the old fashioned route.

windows media center & a tv card to record the radio programs from live as .wtv files - this at least has pvr functionality.

I'm currently playing around with xmedia recode to convert them to a phone friendly size / format ultimate hope being to batch run that to dump the output into my dropbox (as get_iplayer used to)

Do you have to record this whilst playing the station live as I am trying to record Bob Harris which has now been moved to the ridiculous hour of 3am Sunday morning?

With get_iplayer, the "copy the iplayer URL and delete programmes and hit Record" technique seems OK but is messy - the tags need fixing etc.

Here's hoping the Get_IPlayer developers fix it soon!

I'm struggling here! I was devastated to lose Radio Download and now Get i-player no longer works.

Do we know if it will be adapted for the new system?

Also, what is the Rarma Radio? Does anyone use it. Is it reliable and virus free?
