Totally this. I'm starting to feel better, it's like coming out of a hibernation. I used to prefer winter, but now I dread it - for the darkness.

But the sun would have already set well before 5pm though.

It will still be a while before sunset is after 5pm.

I quite enjoy the uk's long twilight period after the sun sets. And the fact come summer time the sun will set after 9pm and 10pm before slowly becoming pitch black rather than setting just after 8pm and then pitch darkness minutes later as happens In the tropics.

As per the old Irish clichéd comment:

The days are getting lighter at both ends. Left for work at 7.15 this morning and the sky was a lighter blue! Can't wait. Its not the cold I hate, its the dark.

It actually made me feel depressed.

In the depths of this winter I had some trouble with sleeping, which meant that there would be times when I wouldn't see daylight for a few days - that was depressing.

It's a slow process at first, then as the weeks go on, it starts to accelerate rapidly. We'll really notice the difference by the end of February.

The sunrises have only started getting earlier this week, whereas sunsets have been slowly getting later and are now in the 12-15-minutes change a week pattern.
