Truly dangerous stunts.

Was just talking about Spielberg's little know official film directorial Debut The Sugarland Express (excellent and very underrated movie), and it reminded me of a very dangerous looking stunt contained in the film.

I cannot imagine this sort of thing being allowed today, and I can only think it was extremely well planned, or theses guy were just very lucky...

Any other similar stunts people can think of?

Mad Max 2 takes some beating.

I don't think they have health and safety in Australia :)

There is quite a few, but the one that made me wince too many times is Born to Fight (2004), a Thai film I saw a few years ago. Awful film as a whole, but the stunts during the road scene are utterly insane.

The stuntsman, Bill Strother, actually climbed the side of a 10 storey building without equipment for the wide shots.

My first choice too. But awful film? It's wonderful - one of the best Thai action films out there! There's also a stunt at the end of the film which is even more dangerous than the ones above, when a guy laying on the ground rolls out of the way of a burning jeep which comes bouncing down inches from his head. Sadly it's not on Youtube as far as I can tell.

The film is well worth watching and not just for the stunts as it's packed with martial arts and gun battles and has some great fight choreography too. Definitely in my top four along with Ong Bak, Chocolate, and Warrior King. Speaking of which, the end of Chocolate contains tons of outstanding stuntwork, and I still can't work out how they did the bit at 5:12 in the clip below without killing the guy:

I was going to mention Chocolate as being made apparantly without any H&S in play. I also like the Jackie Chan police film where two stuntmen crash through the front upper windows of a double-decker bus straight down onto concrete. Something of a cock up I believe as they were meant to have padding in place but the stuntmen went early.

    Regards

Re the Chocolat clip, judging by the speed and manner in which the guy falls, I am guessing it was wire assisted, with the wires being removed afterwards via CGI,

I had read that the plan was for them to land on the bonnet of the car in front, but the bus had pulled up too short, hence they hit the road...ouch!

Sugarland Express was his feature film debut.

Duel was a made-for-tv movie, though it was released theatrically in Europe.

That Chocolate film looks terrible, sad to think people risking their lives for such nonsense.

I suspected that, and also that they may have sped the film up a little. To be honest my favourite thing about CGI is when they use it to assist with stuff like that.

"Emperor of the North". Lots of actors jumping on and off moving trains, often without doubles. Doesn't sound to bad but it made my blood run cold to see it. Very dangerous.:o

There are lots of accidents in Chan's movies and you can see many in the closing credits.

One of the famous ones is where he falls frm the clock tower and is supposed to be cusioned on the way down by gazeebo covers (had a brain fart and can't remember what they're called) but he fell arkwardly and broke aa few bones and almost broke his neck.

I don't think this should be included, mainly because it was not in the finished film, it wasn't really a stunt as such as it was the main actor in shot, and frankly its just a little bit too disturbing.

I also agree the best stunts are the ones where the stunt person doesn't die during it...
