The morality behind this sort of pecking order is very dubious - it's acceptable for some lowlife to torture an old couple for a few quid but some sick bloke who needs help is fair game? I suspect it's no more than the need to feel superior to someone/anyone no matter how low you've sunk yourself.
Actually, I think someone who tortured an old couple would be looked down on too.
There was a programme on last year about Cornton Vale (Scotland's only women's prison) and a girl was put in the Young Offenders Institute attached to the prison who had beaten up a pensioner. When the word got round there was general outrage and ten girls went into her cell to give her a beating.
So it's not just paedophiles that get it. I still think it's hypocrisy though.
