Oh hell, I will agree with that. Aiden murdered it and completely lost the emotion of it. What was with the odd smirks here and there?

My Bad! thought sinead wrote it- esteem for prince has just gone up a noptch

I thought Sinead wrote it herself- however I think she sings it brilliantly so that's probably why I assumed she was the writer

To be fair to the OP, it was never an "anthem" for Prince; and O'Connor turned it into an anthem for the broken-hearted not America.

however Prince has said that O'Connor's is the definitive performance of this song. It's hers, much the way Johnny Cash has taken Hurt from Reznor.

Let me be one of many say it's by Prince.

I don't know of a single song by Prince that I don't prefer a cover version of. Kiss by Tom Jones, this one by Siennead O Connor (sp?) and of course Ruth's Purple Rain.

No he didn't. He gave it to one of his acts, The Family, and it wasn't even released as a single. Sinead O'Connor's cover was a US #1.

Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is one of just two C&W songs that don't make me want to poke red hot needles in my eyes (the other is Patsy Cline's "Crazy"). I had no idea it was someone else's song.

Sinead's version is brilliant but I heard Prince sing it live many years ago and the song was made for him, he sang it beautifully.

God forbid you make a mistake on here, you will be ripped asunder. Haha.. :D

I think it was because you were so determined in your opening post that it was a Sinead song that people couldn't wait to jump on you. :D

    Oh well, everyone makes mistakes.
