I worked in Barclays Bank in Wickford in the 1970's and they framed one of his cheques after he visited the branch. RIP Alvin.

Not bad I suppose but still below average - I know what you mean though.

Aw I always had a soft spot for Alvin so I am really sad to hear this. I was singing "Pretend" to myself yesterday in fact. RIP Alvin.

Very sad. Especially as he didn't look anywhere near 72. Was he still married to Liza Goddard?

    No.

Stardust was married three times: firstly to Iris Caldwell (sister of Rory Storm), who was an ex-girlfriend of both George Harrison and Paul McCartney, having grown up with them in Liverpool;[10] and secondly to the actress Liza Goddard. He was married to the actress and choreographer Julie Paton at the time of his death.

I Feel Like buddy Holly was a great track. Shame we never hear it any more on the radio.

Shame, he was one of the few from that era not tainted by abuse accusations.

Very young, compared to me at 77. :(

I remember when he sat opposite me with his little boy in the early 1980's on the district line on the way to Upton Park.

When you're in your early 50's like me, being 70+ doesn't seem too far away.

Sad news, Radio 2 played one of his songs just after the 12:00 news .

Aw, that's actually really sad. I remember him very well. He seemed like a lovely guy and I enjoyed his songs.

    RIP, Alvin.

Tom cat you know where it's at. Come on let's go to my flat and groove on the mat!! Classic lines! This is sad news today, had no idea he was 72 thought he was much younger. A shame. I remember him mainly from the road safety ads rather than for music.

Heard this news on Radio 2 and then Ken Bruce played one of his songs. Thanks for the memories Alvin.

His ex wife Liza Goddard lives a few miles away and so does their adult daughter Sophie.

Real shame. He had his own style and sound in the '70s when he was a big name. And when his singing career declined he branched out into acting. Second big pop name from the 70s to have died in a fortnight. Lynsey De Paul who was a bit of a health enthusiast died at 64 just 2 weeks ago.

    RIP to both of them.

Always classed him as the British Elvis. He apparently made his last appearance on stage last Saturday.

    RIP
