We need a budget, otherwise it's really hard to suggest anything.

So many variables to consider. A budget would be nice as prices vary and so do extras such as liquid cooling.

Entirely depends on how much you're willing to spend.

I wouldnt recommend liquid cooling to anyone. Liquid cooling is for enthusiasts who want to overclock not for someone getting their first pc. If you have to recommend liquid cooling they dont need it

We will need a budget which you are prepared to spend, on top of that does he want a gaming mouse and keyboard? if so there is another £120 approx.

Here are a few for cost ideas if you want a pre-built one. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/desktop-pcs/geforce-gtx-gaming-pc/

We need to know how much you can spend before we can advise anything usually you can get a reasonably decent one for about £500 you may want to look at this site
    https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/

This is where I got my latest PC from a couple of years ago you can configure the system to suit your needs at the budget you can afford and the people there do a good job as well and my computer hasn't had any problems since I've had it.

It's hard to help if you don't know what you are looking for. If he is looking to run any game at it's max setting's then it's going to cost a fair bit, especially for new games.

As people say without a exact budget its tough to recommend.

I would start with - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181920659878 for £551.99, It is a good price and has a new Intel quad core and a decent graphics card for 1080p (Full HD) gaming.

You would then have to buy:

    Windows 10 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Windows-Home-Bit-English/dp/B010S3UIG4/ - £76.98
    24" HD Monitor - http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-GL2450HM-Widescreen-Multimedia-speakers/dp/B005OPLG0O - £114.99
    Logitech Wireless Combo - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-QWERTY-Layout/dp/B00CL6353A/ - £16.99

This comes to a total of £760.95

If he wants to buy things like an expensive keyboard and mouse combo or dedicated speakers I would let him choose his own in the future as its easy enough to change.

And I thought it was just the "Which console should I choose" threads that get ambushed by the PC folk. Nice to see there's a bit of balance around here :)

Yeah you better make sure that the gaming PC can do 120FPS and 4K or your eyes will bleed :p

It all depends on your budget. You can build a fairly capable machine for £500. Or if money is no object you could go for a i7 5960x with sli Titan graphics cards.
