Good choice. I used to love that song back in the day.
I was quite surprised that no one mentioned it before I did. I would have thought that would be the first one which would spring to mind for most people.
There is one I'm thinking of but I don't know its name.
It's a very bhangra influenced tune which was featured on Chris Evans television show called OFI Sunday in about 2005 when they spun that wheel around with a guy dancing to it.
It was a terrible TV show and naturally didn't last long, but does anybody know the name of the song I'm thinking of?
It was a very popular tune at the time.
I don't specifically know why type of asian music these songs get influence from, but:
Beyonce/Sean Paul - Baby Boy
Beyonce/Shakira - Beautiful Liar (the original version)
Sean Paul - Get Busy
Jay Sean - Ride It
50 Cent - Candy Shop
Black Eyed Peas - Take It Off
Black Eyed Peas - Don't Phunk With My Heart
Lumidee - Never Leave You
I know a lot more but they don't spring to mind right now.
The first four include a sitar amongst the instruments. The fifth includes a guitar de-tuned to sound like a sitar, and Ray Davies was inspired to write this song while in India.
Shakira - Ojos Asi (the spanish language one is way better than the english one)
Beyonce ft Sean Paul - Baby Boy
Siousxie and the Banshees - Kiss Them For Me
Comments
Push - Madonna http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF9T3X_z-5s
Buttons - The Pussycat Dolls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCLxJd1d84s (more Eastern than Indian but it still has Asian influences)

Good one. I like the version titled "Navras" that is played over the end credits. The middle section with the bansuri is awesome.
