Surprise! Body scanners abused again

Even though they told us repeatedly that it was "impossible" to save the images from those newfangled airport body scanners... it turns out they've been doing exactly that.
The U.S. Marshals Service admitted this week that it had surreptitiously saved tens of thousands of images recorded with a millimeter wave system at the security checkpoint of a single Florida courthouse.

Why am I not surprised?

Surely what with the internet there's more stimulating toss-fodder about?

The important point here is it goes to show (yet again) - never trust reassurances from politicians.

I'm guessing it's for biometrics databases... they specifically targetted the scanners at a florida courthouse.

I'm depressed that I'm not in the slightest bit surprised. "I told you so", etc :(

That makes me sound like a tinfoil-donning conspiracy loon - but the tech was ripe for abuse in one way or another. It was a matter of time, nothing more.

Even if there is a fuzzy picture of me revealing the size of my wallet out there somewhere, I really, really couldn't care less.

Last time I went through Heathrow, even though I had nothing on me (belt, watch, shoes, hat, bag, phone etc all in the box and nothing in my pockets), the detector buzzed.

I was given a hand-held scan and it beeped again! So I was taken to the body scanner, and although the staff were very pleasant, I did wonder about what happened afterwards to the images, whether they had a giggle or not - although it doesn't really bother me at all.

We never did find out what was making it beep, but I must have an honest face, as it was taken no further!

I don't know why people care it's not like anyone you know will see it and even if they did they'd have to be told it's you the images are so bad.
