DVD / VCR Combination

I am thinking of changing my VCR and although I have a PS2 that plays DVDs I am wondering if it is worth the extra money to get a combi DVD/VCR?
On the one hand, DVDs are better (etc. etc.) and it's only one machine rather than two, but on the other, I don't have any DVDs and don't have any intention of building up a collection of films that I will probably only watch once. I know many people have loads of DVDs but is there really enough time to watch Gladiator or The Matrix more than once or twice?
Given that the only DVDs I watch are PS2 demo discs and the occasional rental, should I bother with a combi player - and are they any good?

I've seen loads of DVD player VCR combos, but no DVR VCR combo...
