I fully support gay marriage. To not support it says gays are not equal citizens to straight people.
The issue of adopting children is entirely different. I'm still unsure as to whether I agree with that simply because I believe a child needs a mother and a father.
It's a heinous crime against God and His plan of pro-creation and disgusting and vile, just to think of where those gays shove their body parts into another human being makes me sick. AND you can kick & scream & shout & stomp ur tiny little feet or butt off the pavement, NO ! amount of argument from anyone on this forum or planet will make me change my mind........There, everybody have a wonderful day..........:D
I assume that smfm stands for sado-masochistic forum member? So you are hardly in a position to suggest that other peoples' sexual practices are unusual.
Similar "arguments" to the MP, so I thought I'd stick it here rather than make yet another new thread!
Let's not give him Canterbury, eh? And furthermore, I have a little John Sentamu to hang on my Christmas tree (I have a Rowan Williams as well - you can buy them at Canterbury Cathedral) but Sentamu is not going up this year.

A lot of adopted children don't get a mother and a father though. If social services had to wait for a lovely cornflakes-advertisement family for every child, children would wait even longer than they do on the list. The best match available for a child often is a single parent, or less often a same sex couple.

I was really indifferent about gay marriage and im gay myself. But once I seen this MP comments then done more research into some recent opinions in the media, I can say the bigots have made me totally pro gay marriage
People believe that gay marriage is just and others are offended by it for religious reasons. Hypocritical to start baiting others for having different beliefs.
Sentamu, you however, are a buffoon for being so hateful and angry about it. You are findamentally wrong in what you believe in. For the record, sometimes I like to put my parts in the same part of a woman that offends you about gay people and she enjoys it very much. Have a nice day
The virtue of the civil partnerships scheme lay in the attempt to treat the needs of gay and lesbian couples as what they are, not to bundle them into some other category. Marriage is built around complementarity of the sexes, and therefore the institution of marriage is a support for stable families and societies.
Interesting explaination as to why gays should not be allowed civil marriage.
One good aspect about this comments - the onus is now of people to defend the discrimination in relation to whey gay people cannot marry. Rather than having to plead and protest to get equal rights for gay people.

I'll take your word for it. To be honest, I'm ignorant as to whether gay couples as parents work. At least I admit this instead of randomly being against something because the idea of it feels strange.
Why don't churches concentrate their efforts on real, social issues that are happening in the UK right now instead on sitting in their nice comfy, paid for by the congregation, houses and spouting bigotry. It makes me angry. Sentamu is clueless. An idiot of the highest order.

It's not difficult to find a large number of studies that suggest the gender of a child's parent or parents makes absolutely no difference to how good those parents are. The key thing is for the child to have a strong support network and good role models.
Anyone miss the obvious? "It is my strong personal, moral and religious belief". Which means he is entitled to have his own opinion, as much as you may dislike the message, it's still HIS opinion.
What a nice man.. not only shouldn't gay people get married, but neither should straight people who can't have children, and they can't even have CPs!
The Coalition for Equal Marriage is trying to find out how MPs stand on this issue - the best way is for constituents to write to them and ask!
Here is the news so far..
Confirmed Supporters of Equal Marriage - 140
Confirmed Opponents - 40
Confirmed 'neutral' - 6
Not Known for sure (or at all) - 470
It's important to know where our MPs stand, so if yours is a 'don't know', drop them a line. If they reply please tell the guys at C4EM so they can update the list.

The head-line is a lie as including same-sex couples benefit the couples and their family, marriage is always getting redefined like when it was redefined to exclude same-sex couples plus he claims to be for equality and justice but ho scan he be when he's a homophobe? If the arguments were against marriage for blacks and others would he support it?
Anyone miss the obvious? "It is my strong personal, moral and religious belief". Which means he is entitled to have his own opinion, as much as you may dislike the message, it's still HIS opinion.
I would say fair enough if this was mr Joe Public. But this is an MP reply to a letter from someone in his constituency asking for his help/support

To be fair, Sentamu has often spoken out about 'real social issues'. But he certainly is on the conservative wing of the church where sexual matters are concerned. For some reason he refused to join almost all other Bishops in signing the Cambridge accord:
In the name of God, we, the bishops of the Anglican Communion who have affixed our names to this Accord, publish it as a statement of our shared opinion in regard to all persons who are homosexual. We affirm that while we may have contrasting views on the Biblical, theological, and moral issues surrounding homosexuality, on these three points we are in one Accord:
That no homosexual person should ever be deprived of liberty, personal property, or civil rights because of his or her sexual orientation.
That all acts of violence, oppression, and degradation against homosexual persons are wrong and cannot be sanctioned by an appeal to the Christian faith.
That every human being is created equal in the eyes of God and therefore deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
We appeal to people of good conscience from every nation and religious creed to join us in embracing this simple Accord as our global claim to human rights not only for homosexual men and women, but for all God's people.

I bet you are trolling
But many heterosexuals can't have kids or don't want, your god made LBG people too

Of course he is entitled to have and express his opinion. Just as anyone is entitled to challenge and criticise it.
My strong personal, moral and religious belief is that this man is happy to treat some people as second class citizens and I think that is shocking.
To be fair, Sentamu has often spoken out about 'real social issues'. But he certainly is on the conservative wing of the church where sexual matters are concerned. For some reason he refused to join almost all other Bishops in signing the Cambridge accord:
I am firmly of the belief that religious leaders should live their lives with, and in the conditions of, the poorest, most oppressed in society. The fact that they live in some comfort when others don't angers me. They should concetrate their efforts on those who do not have equality. Gay marriage and illiteracy and children still living in slum conditions in 2012 are all examples of inequality the church should be actively seeking to address. The fact that he wrote that pile of bigotry without any awareness of the irony of a black man saying some people should not be equal would make me doubt his word on anything.

Yes, and people are entitled to call him on such beliefs if they are fundamentally indefensible, and specially so if the person with those beliefs is a public servant who's job is to represent the very person who wrote to him in the first place.
